I agree with Prashant.M - leave it in the hotel safe. Most hotels offer secure storage of such items and, to take a passport with you anywhere that you are going to remove it from your person and leave it unattended is asking for trouble.

I wear a 'decoy bum bag' for day cash and a money belt with the real stuff hidden in it under by clothes against my back .In hot weather I wear it over a t shirt which is covered by a kamiz/kurta/indian local attire which I wear always, which is very loose.

police shirt option

When I travel I carry a shirt made by 5.11 or underarmor. They are made for law enforcement to carry a back-up weapon in a pocket under the shoulder area. It works quite well for hiding a passport and other valuables. They are a bit pricy, but are good quality and will last for years. gtdistributors is my favorite place to get them.

Precisely where I had my dummy wallet when a doddering pick pocket made his attempt a few years ago. Time to retire old geezer. But, if I had been in a better mood I would have let it go. The good ones have no problem with a wallet in that location. Try wrapping the wallet with flat rubber bands.

For a moment I envisioned something made by Pacsafe. But, it is a good idea. My problem with hotel safes is that over the last decade I have seen reports of valuables stolen from them in India. Who ever persues a police case abroad? Side note is I had some cash stolen from one in Canada, bad for them that they had given me a receipt..
