Looking for tips
Hello everyone. I just found this forum this afternoon. I'll be leaving on Saturday for a weeklong business trip to India. I'd love to hear any suggestions that anyone cares to offer regarding what to pack, what to bring.
I am concerned about electricity for my laptop and camcorder. Where do I buy an electrical adapter. What food can I bring? Is all that I have heard about bacterial infections true? Dare I eat outside of my hotel? Please give me any hints and tips that come to mind. Thanks for the help Mike |

My suggestion is to spend the next 2 days searching through this forum. All your questions will be answered!

where in india are you headed for?
yes eat outside your hotel by all means.... in nice places. its not like the eateries that arnt exactly "decent/up market" are all bad, but a finite percentage of them definitely are, at least on the odd "bad food days" . so, look before you..... eat.you will find adapters in any shop that sells "electrical goods" like switches and the like. ask for a "hardware" store. if you told us which city, and which hotel, someone familiar with the place, could tell you exactly where the nearest (from your hotel) such shop exists.... in any case getting an adaptor isnt going to be a problem |

Hotels in India
I'll be staying in the Hilton in Mumbai, Le Meridian in Delhi and the Hotel Park Plaza in Ludhiana.
Thanks Mike |

You can get voltage adaptors and plug adaptors at the nearest Radio Shack.
If you haven't had any vaccinations, please (at least) get a tetanus shot. Drink only bottled water, and except in those very posh hotels, ask for drinks without ice. Get a guidebook (I like Lonely Planet) and read it on the plane on the way over -- the introductory chapters about manners and health and shopping are important, as is the sightseeing info for where you'll be going, assuming you'll have some free time. |
