I think the site is useful for people who are looking for ATMs to withdraw money. Afterall it doesn't really matter what bank owns the ATM as long as the charge is low.

True - Hyderabad has 8 banks listed, but if you for example select to view ATMs by UTI Bank in Hyderabad this list displays over 40 locations.

Sorry, my mistake.

I bank with an Indian bank, and dislike using other bank ATMs for withdrawing cash*, so I had a unidimensional view on this.

Everybody is not like me, thank god.

*this was after a withdrawal was deducted twice by the machine by mistake once; had to wait two months before it was reversed, since two banks were involved.

As far as I know these pin's are universal. You could ask your bank. Never had a problem with it anywhere. As long as the card's accepted.

I tried to ask to the bank but they did not know

I suppose that if the ATM where I am going to withdraw is in Cirrus circuit there should not be any problem with the card. I have read to check if the number of PIN digit is the same but none seem to know it... maybe a overconcern

If I my assumption of what Cirrus is, is right, then you might have some problems as most ATMs here are either Master Card/Maestro OR Visa/Visa Electron.

It would be better if you google and find out which Indian back supports Cirrus..and check the availability of the ATMs.

My debit card has both Maetro logo and Cirrus Logo. Cirrus is the one with this logo and should be for international withdrawal.

I have also VISA but I would prefer to withdraw money from debit card that should cost less commissions.

From this website it seems that there are some ATM for that
MasterCard Global ATM Locator*| MasterCard®

What about the PIN

Visa, Visa Electron, Maestro, Mastercard, Cirrus

Any card with any one of the following logos will work in India: Visa, Visa Electron, Maestro, Mastercard or Cirrus.

saragat,

U have the best card possible. The State Bank of India has by far the largest ATM network in India, and their logos are Maestro and Cirrus. Your PIN will work, no problem.

Today you find ATMs at almost every corner, so to speak. Lots of ones without Bank "attached" also. I find the UTI ones helpful. come without the bank. supposedly one of the largest ATM networks in India (around 2000 ATMs). New name though, now: Axis.

http://www.axisbank.com/personal/fin...p?offtype=ATMs

Their ATMs issue 500 Rupee-bills, which I prefer, and large amounts. With some banks you get only 5-10'000 Rupees at once.

A real hassle are the State Bank of India ATMs. Their instructions are so weird, it is hard to do it right.

You should be made aware, that earlier this year while I was in India, I read an article in the newspaper which claimed that the Private Banks such as UTI have their ATM's stocked by Private companies. This has led to Fake Rs500 notes being put in some machines. Unfortunately, I was a recipient of one of these fake Rs500. which I only discovered later on. As there was no branch nearby where I could go to register a complaint, the matter ended there. I always now use the State Bank Of India.
