List of ATM locations in India

A list of ATM locations for a major network is attached. I hope this may be of use to many of you carry credit cards to India.

ICICI Bank ATMs are one of the largest networks in the country. There are many other ATMs operate with international credit cards. They operate 24Hrs. Visa, Visa Electron, Master, Cirrus and Maestro cards can be used in all the ICICI Bank ATMs. For local currency the withdrawal limit is 15000rs a day maximum using ATM card. I’m not sure about the limits for the international cards. Also for the local bank accounts there is ATM service free. There is a transaction charge for the credit card cash withdrawal. I’m not sure about the service charges.

Look for the Yellow to Brown shaded signboard with ICICI Bank written in white letters. Generally they are backlit can be easily located at shopping malls, airports, petrol stations, city centers and the likes.

About 1000 locations & addresses are listed in alphabetical order (city wise). MS Excel file.

ICICI don't have one there. I know Srinagar has a State Bank of India ATM. There must be a couple of more also. I’m not sure about the location and other details. I feel it must be at the city center or somewhere prominent like that. My advice is that don’t solely depend on the ATM at SN since the next option may be far and few in between compared to other Indian cities. I’ve never been to SN though.

(every other day a new ATM open at somewhere or somewhere.The list of ATM get growing day by day.So you'll have at least double the number of ATM available than the list I've attached. Like they say 'You are never far from an ICICI ATM')

Thanks, beach. There are additional ATMs missing, though, and I'm sure that they're popping up at a fast rate nowadays.

At least Kodaikanal and Nagercoil are missing from the list; maybe the Kodaikanal was not ICICI, but the Nagercoil I'm pretty sure was. Also there was one ICICI in Fort Cochin about to open when I was there, and one in Mattacherry that was already open. There was also one non-ICICI in Ernakulam that I used. So I'd say this list is helpful, but not exhaustive. ICICI is the best, but not the only one.

[edited to make correction: I'm wrong above on the Mattancherry one; I now remember: somebody said there was one, I looked for it and couldn't find it]

Maybe it's good to remind you all that using credit cards in ATMs may be expensive (charges made by your CC company). Use a debet card, which gets cash straight off your home account, and it's probably much cheaper. I'm using my Dutch bank's debit card (Maestro system) which charges nothing at all, worldwide.

And yes, the list is expanding - there are 2 ATMs here in Mount Abu as well. Still none in Jaisalmer that will accept foreign cards though.

I posted a comment about debit card safety awhile ago. They are convenient yes, however keep in mind that they are not credit cards and do not offer the safety measures that a normal visa/mastercard would have.

An example if someone get's hold of your debit card number and drains the account and you don't catch it within a few days you are basically out of luck. It's usually a 48 hour time limit that you have and if you don't check your account regularly you may not catch it. Try getting your local bank to refund it, it's a nightmare, especially from overseas.

Here are some tips-

• Check with your bank first- some banks may or may not offer the guarantee that usually comes with a normal credit card.
  
• Keep your funds limited in your checking account. It's fairly easy if you have an online account to transfer funds from one account to another.
  
• Visa Prepaid are also good. Use them up and throw them away.
  

Losing all of your money while on vacation can be a big nightmare. My main tip would be "don't keep all of your eggs in one basket" and always have a backup plan just in case.

MoU to this effect was signed here today between H V Sharma, Executive Director, Railway Board, and Ravi Kaul, General Manager (ATM), SBI, in the presence of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and Finance Minister P. Chidambaram.

India's largest bank the State Bank of India will set up automatic teller machines (ATMs) at 681 railway stations across the country, making travelling in trains a much smoother affair and qualitatively upgrading the profile of passenger amenities.

Under the deal, the SBI will be allowed to set up ATMs for a period of five years, while the Railways' coffers will swell by Rs 10.5 crore annually.

The SBI will also set up ticketing kiosks at stations. Passengers will be able to buy unreserved tickets from the ATMs, which will act as a vending machine.

The SBI will provide ticketing facility through internet kiosk by installing computers at 383 major stations in association with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp (IRCTC).

ATMs at all the 681 stations will be installed within 15 months of the signing of the MoU. Out of 681 station 298 are small stations without having ATM facility at present.

The policy for installation of ATMs at railway stations was hammered out in 2001. In five years time around 150 ATMs have so far been installed at major stations.

The Railways, on its part, will provide six sq m space to the SBI for setting up an ATM while the ATM having facility for providing tickets, would be given 1.5 sqm extra space.

The signing of the deal was delayed by a month because the Railway Ministry had earlier insisted that the SBI transfer the cash collected at stations through sale of tickets and other activities to the railway treasury. With the SBI showing its opposition to the move, the ministry later agreed not to insist on the demand, paving the way for the signing of the deal.

The SBI had set up its first ATM at a station in the country at Ernakulam in May 2002. The then Minister of State for Railways O. Rajagopal had inaugurated it. The ATM will provide not only banking facilities to railway users but also season tickets and unreserved tickets. In fact, the season ticket facility has already been introduced in Mumbai.

There are more than 8,000 railway stations in the country, including 681 ''A'' class stations, serving over 16 million passengers a day. Initially, ATMs will be set up at 'A' and 'B' class stations.

Ministers of State for Railways R. Velu and Naranbhai J. Rathwa, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Railway Board Chairman J P Batra and SBI Chairman O P Bhatt were also present on the occasion.

I feel that SBI has the widest network of ATMs in India.

I guess it would be a good Idea to have links websites of all the banks in Inda (if its possible), as all there websites must have the list of their respective ATM's.

By personal experience, even though I do not have a SBI card, but I have seen their ATM at almost all the places.

At the top right of the main page there is an ATM locator. Just select the city and then preferred bank. The list of ATMs seems extensive, and the Cashnet ATM network includes many larger well known banks like Citi, HSBC, Centurion, DCB, HDFC, IDBI, ING Vysya and more.

Tobias, very few banks are covered on that site. They have only 12 member banks.

Hyderabad has a list of 8, Delhi has only 4....
