lifesaver food
strange title, I know... but let me explain: I usually take with me, when I'm going on treks on my mountains, a good piece of parmigiano (parmisan cheese) and some nuts. They give me ready energy to go on.*
Now, what's your lifesaver food in India, something you always take with you because you know you won't find it during the travel? If there such a thing for you... *I think I'll take with me a kg or two of spaghetti. ![]() |

Everywhere I travel to I always bring peanut butter. Great for a snack or breakfast and those late nights when everything is closed and you've got the munchies. Just buy some bread or bisquits. You can live on it. A banana-peanut butter sandwhich makes a good and healthy snack. and it's yummy too.

The only "food" I take from home are caffeine mints. I have a caffeine addiction that would put Keith Richards to shame, and never know when I'll be able to get cup of coffee or a coke. Otherwise, I just buy snack foods at my destination.

I bring ginger tea. A Chinese brand called "Gold Kili". It's good when my tummy is out-of-sorts. I also bring an immersion heater to boil water to make the tea!
I don't bring food because India has so many things I enjoy and I buy "Gluco" biscuits for snacking while on trains. |

Almond butter/whey protein bars. A meal on their own!

When I was much younger and first travelled overseas, I took some Vegemite with me. Now I wouldn't bother!

Granola bars, especially the chewy ones by Quaker Oats. We bring 2 or 3 dozen for a trip of several months. They saved us many a time when we were on the road and couldn't find any place to grab a bite [hard to believe in India, but we've been on some pretty strange roads]
We got one of our drivers hooked on granola bars and we left him with all we had left before we said good bye. There's also GU energy gel, especially chocolate outrage flavour. http://guenergy.com/products/gu-energy-gel And I bring glucose in tubes, but that's another story. distaff half of hfot2 |

Last visit to India, I brought spicey Japanese rice crackers (arare) for snacks. When I ran out, I bought and carried dried fruit, cashews (in Andhra) and peanuts (everywhere).
Oh, Ananda, they sell peanut butter in India now -- you don't have to carry a jar of Skippy! ![]() |

Nobody mentioned wine? Don't forget chocalate drink powder and your favorite cereal. After breakfast I can eat anything thing that doesn't move too much as long as I have masala Indian catsup, eg. bakari..

I brought back Pecans and Jasmine tea from the US. The pecans make a great snack and take up very little room. I absolutely love them and can't get them here. Red licorice candy would be a non-healthy item that I occasionally ask someone to send me from the states.
I am so happy that I can get both Peanut Butter and Spaghetti here now . |
