| IPad in India? I am traveling to India, Bhutan and Nepal in October with my partner and I am thinking of not bringing a computer but rather, an iPad. Anyone with any suggestions or thoughts on this? I am thinking about availability of wireless, which is the only way it can connect to the Internet. Thanks for any advice. stephen | |

| Wireless coverage improves by the day all over India in big cities and small centres alike. Where it's not available there are often internet cafes. I'm taking my iPad next time I go.

| I've got one. The iPad is *great* for travelling, and you'll find lots of wi-fi hot spots. It's the best computer I've ever used (speed and usability) and very reasonably priced for its capabilities. However, because it doesn't have a CD drive you won't be able to watched pirated VCDs at your hotel in the evenings A cheap Dell Vostro laptop might in that case be a better choice if you need the CD drive. | |

| ...or you could use Air Video to rip a few hundred hours' worth of videos into the iPad storage for watching with Goodreader (along with a couple thousand books). I even have the LP guide to India on there. | |

| Ipad Just came back from Mexico where the iPad worked perfectly and was a pleasure to have. It was light weight and great on the plane, providing hours of reading, games and movies. I will just hope that wifi is available on my long --40 day--trip around India, Bhutan and Nepal. Thanks to all who commented. | |

| hackintosh Or... if you want to spare yourself the agony of a lost of stolen iPad, and have the ability to save what you write to a USB flash drive or to an SD card, AND if you are a Mac user, you could consider making a hackintosh: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/mac-...n-via-mac.html and http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/articles.php distaff | |

| DrSCF This year we spent 3 weeks mainly on the tourist trail in central and southern India and were surprised how much wifi there was. We stayed in cheap backpacker style accommodation and most of them offered free wifi. Even at the beach bars wifi was available for a small charge. We had the Iphone then and Will definitely take the iPad this time. Just can't beat the battery life and viewing ability! | |
