ok these are my teva sandals ...

http://www.kathmandu.com.au//30153/T...zer-Women.html

I will be wearing socks with them, (though i will feel a bit like a grandad!).

They are not open toe but they do have major grip on the soles, even better than my running shoes... but you guys are right i can always pick up a cheaper pair if i need them and just leave them behind if i have no room.

You can get cheap flip flops for shower shoes or just wandering for about 100 rupees a pair, and they probably wouldn't last long after your trip anyway so no guilt in throwing/giving them away when you're done.
Agreed you can get shoes at very cheap rate. Use and throw

Be very careful with the flip flop's for the shower use, I have slipped my first time and hit my head so hard, that was in Pune, 1984. And I never forgot the knock-out.
Better to be safe than sorry.
Sincerely, Gypsie

Be careful generally in showers and toilets, as the tile are often not nonslip.

Going back to the original question: it is a very good one! If you are in doubt, then do take another pair. One thing you do not want is blisters from a new pair of shoes.
