I can't believe I am saying this but will one pair of shoes do?
I will be travelling around India for 2 weeks in November and I am only taking one carry on backpack.
I love shoes but sadly I am thinking of taking my teva sandals as my only footwear. Would this be adequate? I also may do the day trek to Triund. I am packing light but running out of space already and dont want to take up room with extra footwear. Not quite sure where all my shopping will go ![]() Thanks in advance for any advice! Sarah |

If you have trekked in them before and they worked for you then you shouldn't have a problem here. A lot will depend on where you plan to go and what you plan to do. In the worst case you can always buy another pair of shoes in INDIA. I would risk it .. Cheers |

Srar 73,
My govt. recommends not to ware shoes with open toe's or heals because of cuts one may get and then infection from the dust and dirt. It is a different environment. Different germs. Enjoy India, it is a fantastic country in every way. Sincerely, Gypsie |

The only thing with having only one pair of shoes is what happens when they get wet!
But hey, as others have said --- you buy another pair. |

I'd recommend two pairs but then carrying just a pair provides you with an opportunity to be Miss Goody Two Shoes...

Sarah, I don't know what Teva sandals are, but you will need enclosed shoes in HP. First of all, you'd be freezing in sandals and then, the footpaths and roads are rough uneven and often littered with debris. I would be cautious about getting a cut on my foot from some bit of glass or wire.
You can easily and cheaply buy another pair of shoes in Mcleod or Delhi and bring the sandals for sure ! |

What I do always, when buying sandals, is to ensure that the heal and toe do not overhang and are protected from kicking or tripping sharp things. It's worked for me for quite some time. But don't forget that your feet are really in the thick end of infectious dust, down there on the ground, on streets that may well be used as toilets and worse. |

I bought more shoes when I got here, but the first time I came to India I only brought Merrells. I loved those shoes! The only time they didn't work was when I was too dressed up, but otherwise they were great for walking & looked ok with Salwar Kameez or jeans. You can get cheap flip flops for shower shoes or just wandering for about 100 rupees a pair, and they probably wouldn't last long after your trip anyway so no guilt in throwing/giving them away when you're done.

Anyways they are sports sandals and made especially for river rafting and trekking kinda stuff so i do not think getting wet is a problem. The only thing is the cold weather. and may be she can buy one pair in India only if needed. ![]() |
