it's not in a trek. it's "on a trek".Cooker would be very high but very useful on a high altitude trek. probably result in a lot of fuel saving. You would cook rice and lentils(beans) together with some spices(monitor this).

And sentences should start with an upper-case letter.

True. It's just that my daughter(one year old) was tottering towards me and I typed out what I could in a hurry before she was all over me.I stand corrected .
I should rework the statement in my previous post. Pressure Cookers are pretty heavy. You can check out the GSI pressure cooker on REI website(60 $ US).

Hi,
Seems like more of an English language thread. Well what do you mean by gas tanks ? The cooking medium depends upon the place you want to trek and also what you want to cook.

i believe you can pay the porters to carry one of their own pressure cookers for your own use.

What are you guys, a bunch of frustrated wannabe English teachers? The man made an understandable inquiry regarding carrying a portable gas cooker and purchasing the bottles in India and you jump all over him! Not sure he was even asking about a pressure cooker...just an everyday propane cooker. Any decent camping store will have what you need. As far as the bottles go, you might consider asking your trekking guide (if you're hiring one) or simply Google "Trekking in Himachal Pradesh" and make inquiries of the trekking agencies. They might have stoves you could rent or purchase used.

Look every thing depends on what the person is carrying and these things are not that easily available in India. So it is very important to know the burner type and the fuel cartridge required. One may get in Manali but best is to carry from Delhi if you do not want to take chance. Ask the IMF store at Delhi.

Idanp, if you would leave it to a trekking agency they would take care of the food and charge you for it. But probably you are not planning to hire one?

Do give us more details (in any kind of English you wish) and we can try to help.

I saw the word cooker and thought he would like a pressure cooker. I see he wants a stove. He should be able to get that from any trekking agency.

first of all, thank you everyone.
I plan to trek in parvati valley, through pin-pass to pin valley,
continue north to spity and maybe try to get as close as i can to leh by foot. As I understand, most of these routes are impossible without a guide. Also, at night, you camp, because there arent any guest houses. so i will probably need a tent,
and to cook by myself. i plan to cook rice and lentil. I have
a cooker with a puncture gas tank. In Israel, its very popular and you can get a gas tanks like that everywhere, its the standard. I was wondering if I should take this cooker with me to India, and the main consideration is whether these tanks are common in india (specificly in Himachal).
could someone recommend about the subject???

thank you all!! im leaving to India in 10 hours!!!

Idanp, I don't think so that these tanks are common in India. The best would be to hire a guide who can cook and leave the logistics to him! Otherwise Indian Mountaineering Institutes are the best bets for these Butane tanks. Or is it that they are becoming more common in India?

Tanks and canisters

A few propane / butane tanks (canisters) are available in Delhi.

I would NOT carry any of these coz refills may not be available and these canisters do not work efficiently at high altitude in the Himalaya.

Carry a local kerosene stove. Lots of Kerosene available.

You cannot do Pin Pass without a guide. Your porter will carry the stove and do some cooking for you.
