help w/packing for North India in Nov/Dec

hello, we will be in India (delhi, varanasi, bodhgaya, jaipur, agra) from mid-Nov to mid-Dec for about 4 weeks. we will primarily be staying in nicer hotels so i don't anticipate needing a tent or sleeping bag... i'm mostly wondering what to bring for clothing.

-Will i want flip-flops or will it be so cool we'll want to wear shoes everyday?
-will in need a parka or heavy coat or will a heavy fleece be enough? or even just sweaters?

I saw the temps will be between 50 and 75 degrees F but i'm having a hard time translating that into clothes.

I don't want to weigh us down by over-packing!
thanks so much for any help.

I wear sandals in India; if you have some that you can wear socks with on a cool evening, you'll be just fine. It's not that much colder than San Francisco at night, though the humidity will be higher.

You might consider silk long-johns; they're comfortable and will keep you warm under the clothing you wear in the daytime.

I never take a jacket; there are wonderful woolen shawls available in India for just a few dollars, so get one to wear there, and it'll make a fine souvenir when you get home. I like the Kulu shawls, available at the Himchal Emporium on Baba Karak Singh Marg in New Delhi; I think my best one cost around $12 a couple of years ago.

hi melglo,

a sweater in this area is normnally really enough - if not - by an additional cotton shawl on the market
