help needed for trek to Chandrasila
Hi guys,
Me and a friend are planning to trek to Chandrasila via Chopta and Tungnath. Can someone please help us with any phone numbers or contacts of people in that area to organize the trek for us. Ive been advised to hire a jeep or sumo from Rishikesh to move ahead. Would any of you know when the actual trek starts and what is the ideal time to do this trek |

let me first tell you that this is one of the easiest trek that you would undertake.. you can start your trek (from Chopta) at around 8 am and reach chandrashila by 11 am and can come back to chopta by evening... the route is also very straight forward.. with little help from locals you will be able to reach chandrashila with ease. You dont need to hire a jeep (unless you want to do it in style) from Rishikesh... just board any bus that goes to Kedarnath..get down at 'Kund'... from Kund you can hire a jeep to Chopta as the bus service from Kund to Chopta is slightly uncertain. From Rishikesh it will take you approx 8 hrs to reach Kund and from there it will be approximately an hour and a half. The ideal time for the trek would be October as the weather in that area is absolutely fine during that time. You can go there during the summers also. You get very basic accomodation at Chopta/Tunganath so dont expect the luxuries that you might be accustomed to.No need to carry ration..just carry your sleeping bag and woolens as it will be pretty cold at Chopta/Tunganath. I would suggest that that you spend a night at Tunganath and do the chandrashila trek the following morning as the scenery at that hour is simple fantastic. Soura |

Great thread.I am planning the same circuit alone(I'll include Deoria tal)in October(during Laxmi purnima). When do the buses/jeeps start plying from Haridwar to Rishikesh/Rudraprayag? I'll be reaching Haridwar as early as 4 in the morning. Do I need to make the bookings in advance?

I dont think there is any provision to book tickets in advance.. atleast it was not there when I went to Haridwar/Rishikesh in Oct 2000. Buses upto Rudraprayag from haridwar/rishikesh,I would presume, would be available till 12 noon. Soura |
