Going to Northern India from the end of June until the middle of July
I've never been to India before, I dont know what to pack, some people have gievn me advice on here about shower shoes etc but I'm not sure what to wear during the day. Also trekking in the Himalayas and staying in Delhi. Can you give me some essentials?
I dont speak any of the language, will that be a problem? |

You will undoubtedly overpack. You will also find that you don't need half of what you carry over there. Shower shoes? Buy a pair of flip flops (made in China) on the street for 2 rupees. Or just, well, go barefoot, as is customary in the shower.
English, gestures, a smile, and the names of a few Bollywood actresses (Rani and Aishwarya are good) will enable you to negotiate any situation. You shouldn't have a problem with language. |

A pair of boots and a pair of denims and perhaps a t0-shirt and buy everything else there for pennies Once yous ort out what to take lay it all out and ...now this is the hard part half it ...then half it again ...remember you need to carry it Take the bare essentials ...most things are available in india

A good backpack, one pair of jeans (its too hot for them but just to be safe), a few cotton tops/shirts (donno whether you are male or female), prescription meds (and prescriptions), good hiking boots (if you will be trekking), a good pair of walking sandals (tevas or naots), sweat absorbing socks, a sleeping bag (ONLY if you are planning to rough it in the open), and lots of patience. Everything else is available in India.

We have just booked flights up to Ladakh for next week (14.08). Whats the temps up there at this time of year. Can we get warm weather gear up there if we need it? Has anyone got any fabulous places to recommend to us?
