I have tried to get the Khadi shops interested in exporting anything at all as I'm convinced that there's a market out there for them.

They're a 'Government of India Enterprise' and so not interested in anything much...

Not in bulk discounts, not in making money, not in exporting, not anything.

The whole operation works exactly as it did when it was set up eighty odd years ago, complete with seperate cashier's desks and collecting your goods from a wrapping point.

Mind you, I do know what they mean...

If you want to export anything from India on a commercial scale you need an'exporters license' and you also need an honest shipper.

An 'exporters license' is almost impossible for a non Indian national to get, and not easy for an Indian national without an audited business track record of at least two years.

Honest shippers...

If anyone knows of an honest shipper for small loads carried by surface (known as 'groupage') operating in Bombay please contact me.

So yes, we looked, we tried, we failed.

We had an identical experience with the Mysore insense people. It's a state enterprise who don't export because 'It's far too complicated'...

I love India, it's interested in money, as long as nobody actually has to get out from behind their computer screen and do something, that's for someone from a village...
