extra batteries
I've heard that the authorities at the airport will take away extra batteries from you or that you may not take batteries with you in your luggage. Please let me know, if you have experienced this and why they would do that. I want to take my digital camera with me, but would like to bring some extra batteries, too (I know I could buy them in India, but I have them at home so why buy more).

I know people on this forum mention having problems but I always carry my batteries in my hand luggage and have never had a problem in or out of India. In the last year or so I have done this three times without any problems.
The posters by the baggage x-ray machines at IGIA Delhi do not have batteries listed as a dangerous item. |

In India, when they take them, they give them back--your batteries are not stolen. You pick up them up at a desk inside the terminal.

I have taken batteries on many flights into India and many internal flights within India in the last two years and have never had any problems. I have flown Jet, Sahara, Emirates, American, etc. I always carry them on in my camera bag.

I have just recently returned from India and have flown domestically via Jet Airways and did not have any problems at all with regard to batteries. I had a spare battery, a spare flash memory card and my digital camera in my hand luggage.

flew into mumbai with at least a dozen batteries in my hand luggage - no problems whatsoever.
my advice would be that, if you are not using rechargable batteries, to take as many as you can because they can be difficult to track down just when you want them. my camera only works with duracell or eveready or the equivalent, and i had trouble finding these in india (and now i know someone will come along and tell you how to find them easily  ) |
