Talking Does it snow in Tibet in March??

Hi there!

For packing reasons, I wanted to know if it snows in Tibet (specifically Lhasa, Gyantse and Xigatse) in March....I know it's very very cold, but is it humid enough to snow a lot??

Thanks!

In the areas you mention, it's not so much snow as really cold weather that's the problem that early in the year (adding to breathing problems caused by the high altitude), but you could get some hail and sleet. How are you planning to travel to Tibet? If you are thinking of going overland from Nepal, snow WILL be a problem in the mountain passes at that time of year - the road will probably be closed. Or are you flying in??

Check out the following website for packing tips:

You know, I have a big problem, because there are no flights in this time of the year and at the same time going overland I'd have the snow problem, but I talked to a travel agency and they told me they can arrange this trip in March...so I think I might be going overland....

What do you think?

I went in March this year and it was fine. It was sometomes snowing on higher altitudes but that means just cold&coloring the landscape white far from road blockade. Dont worry about big cities - Lhasa and Shigatse were T-Shirt hot during the day.
True, this year Himalayas were poor with snow but anyway, March is not snowing season in Himalayas in general.

One question: which travel agency did you go with? Was it good?

There are many agencies who sell budget Tibet tour but very few who in fact run it. One of them is Richa Tours&Travels (www.explorenepalricha.com). You can check the details with them via email (explore@ecomail.com.np). Just make sure you spend the first night in Nyalam not in Zanghmu.
Another I think should be Green Hill Tours (www.greenhilltours.com), email: ghill@wlink.com.np.

Hey Kolobar, thanks for the tips!

But when I try to reach the greenhill tour website, it goes to another sexual website!

Are you sure that the name is correct??

Best Regards!

URL is from their leaflet. Same sexual thing with me. Just try to email them.
I was in contact with Richa via email and they answer very promptly.

All right....I'll do it!

Just one more question (I promisse!!) I'm arrivng in Kolkata and I want to leave on the same day to Varanasi by train, but I didn't want to make the internet booking for a rail ticket so, do you know of any travel agency in Kolkata who could do this booking thing for me?

Thank you soooo much!!

All your questions are welcome so do not hesitate to ask - that is the purpose of forums I suppose.
But for this one - someone else has to answer since I am not familiar with Kolkata. Though I can tell you what I would do: check by myself about train tickets and if "tourist quota" is sold out book the first possible train and enjoy a day or two of Kolkata. I am sure it is worth even more than that.

If you are on the tight schedule - you can fly from Kolkata to KTM....
I am not very good on "tight schedules advices" since I believe traveling on tight schedule spoils most of the fun.
Anyway I hope someone else can give you a reliable contact in Kolkata - post it in Travel agents or Kolkata section since I guess our dialog about Tibet does not attract Kolkata specialists.

Well, my schedule is tight but not as tight so IŽd have to take a flight....

You're right! I won't find any Kolkatta specialists here!

But thank you very much anyway!
