there will be loads of places to download your photos. the way I do it is to take my USB cable, and the camera software, with me, then download the photos, and burn them to a CD. I had no problem doing this in Northern india, you just have to ask around.

a USB/flashcard reader is helpful. $20 or so.

What about the power supply?
I'll probably take mine anyway but is it easy (and relatively cheap) to get AA batteries in India? I won't be travelling too far off the beaten tracks.

Duracel AA and AAA batteries are widely available and in my experience (from ones bought in Goa), they give the same service as ones brought from home. I forget the price but I recall that they were cheaper than Canadian prices. There is a possibility that there might be some counterfeit Duracell's out there, so you should buy them from a reputable-looking shop rather than take a greater risk with a street vendor.

Hi there,

finding places to burn CDs is no prob. The best prices were quoted from internet places that have a burner in the computer. The official photo places all cost up to 4 times as much.

I had problems with my sony digi as it does take some normal aa batteries but usually it wants the official cybershot batteries from Sony. I took a bunch along (normal and sony ones) and used the ones from home. I bought a whole bunch of different batteries (energy was running low...) in India, but none of them worked with the camera.

btw - usb cabel was fine for me.

Suzanne, just because it's "duty free" doesn't mean you are getting a good deal. Maybe better to get something at home and practice with it before you go.

a USB flashcard reader is a cable with a lump on one end into which you put your flashcard, and the other end goes into the puter. It dumps your pics into the puter very quickly and efficiently. A flashcard is what stores your photos, on just about every model digital camera but Sony. Sony . . . well, ask a Sony person!

For us in the split personalities group there are also multi-card readers.

I haven`t bought a card reader yet but will definitely do so before the next trip since card readers use the power from the ´puter - longer battery life.
