Just a bit of warning - if you are going to be in Agra or Delhi when the pollution is really bad, it may be hard to wear them. With burning eyes, I had to take mine out in the back of a cab in Old Delhi......

I've done it with the daily disposable sort, don't think I'd wear multiple-use lenses while in India though.
If you're going to do it bring some of those little packages of saline drops (the sort that only have 5 drops in them anyway) for dry/dusty/polluted places, then you can usually avoid having to take them out. Wearing sunglasses when you're in a rickshaw helps to keep the rubbish out of your eyes too. Make sure you bring your glasses too though (or get some made cheap while you're over there ) for long journeys, especially if you're travelling in AC class. |

I switched to daily disposable contacts in India, because the pollution was irritating my eyes with 2 week disposable contacts. They ended up being more expensive than in the States, but that's cause they were imported from Japan. Not sure how much other types cost, but i wouldn't you to save that much money. Even cleaning solution was only slightly cheaper than USA prices.

A pair of contacts by Johnson&Johnson's will cost you around Rs 1000...they are clear lenses and are to be disposed off after a month...
In either Delhi or Dharamsala, just go to any optician which has a seemingly big shop..or a lot of business..and just order, most of the optic guys stock these contacts in all numbers so you won't have to wait ... And your eyes won't necessarily get damaged if you buy your lenses from India...take precautions as you would anywhere else...make sure the guy sells you the lenses in the brand packaged case...i.e. it shouldn't be opened.

Be careful about buying glasses though. I had my prescription in hand and I think they still screwed it up as I get headaches from them if I wear them for more than 20 minutes. I think the curvature of the lense might be off.

Not much difference in price
Hi,
I buy my contacts in India all the time and I buy the daily disposables. And I have bought them in several places from Delhi to Dharamshala and the prices range from a little bit cheaper to more expensive to what can buy in Australia. So best to count on you are not going to make any saving in price though maybe considerable saving in space in your bag if you are travelling for any extended length of time. For me this is the beauty of buying as you go so I am not lugging boxes of contact lenses around. Hope this helps. ![]() |

No issues with them as of now...u still have to carry shades or goggles so that dirt does not get inside

I bought my Baush&Lomb contacts from Mumbai for about 2000 bucks. I don't think you will be damaging your eyes, unless you buy it from an unreliable source. Bausch&Lomb contacts are very famous in India and you will probably get them in atleast every second Optics. Hope that helped.

Can anyone speak to the availability of Clear Care contact solution (or other similiar brand that uses hydrogen peroxide and the metal case)?
I understand that contact solutions are widely available. However, I've had allergic reactions to some kinds of namebrand solutions. Will be living in Chennai for a year. |

I have only used Bausch & Lomb and they are good. The Clear care website offers a guarantee which sounds interesting. I wonder if there is any difference in the solution. |
