Cold nights ?

Hi, hope someone can help. I,m travelling to Goa in a few weeks on a package deal, but I want to get out & see something more of the country (but only have a couple of weeks, & don't want to spend too long on trains.) Can you recommend anywhere to go; & importantly, does it get cold at night anywhere & is there any need for me to take warm(ish) clothes ?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Graham

cold nights

If your only in Goa for a couple of weeks, I would just travel around locally, theres plenty to see in such a short time.
Old Goa, Arumbol etc, Hampi is not too far for a 2 or 3 day trip but thats the furthest I would venture in the time you have.

The nights wont be cold, we were there Dec/Jan and didnt need anything more than a tshirt or dress. Dont make the mistake that most people make by bringing too many clothes out with you. Getting laundry done is really cheap even in the hotels it only cost a few rupees.

Have a great time I am so jealous.....I love Goa

Thanks Julie,
I can keep my luggage to a minimum, then.
As far as staying put/ travelling round; I'm not sure when I'll be able to go again in the near future, so I wanted to see at least one other side to India, even though I know 2 weeks isn't very long. Are Mumbai or Kerala out of the question, do you think ?

Hi Graham, Mumbai is close enough but only if you fly there, Kerela can also be reached by air but I am sure that when we looked into a short trip down there a couple of years ago the flight timings meant that too much time would have been wasted. I know a lot of people say that Goa isnt the real India but believe me its still a bit of a culture shock. You dont stay where in Goa you are staying but in Candolim/Calangute there a few travel agents who have organised trips to the likes of mumbai and up to the Taj. It would probably be a lot cheaper doing your own arrangements but at least by seeing what they have to offer will give you an idea of the times/distances involved.

Goa is a very seductive place, bet once youve been you will start planning your return.

Thanks again, Julie.
Like you say, I think I'll wait till I get there & have a look what's what. Going to the south, actually, (Varga, I think it is ?) but motorbike hire seems like a good idea, reading another thread here.
Can't wait now......

Smile Where else to go

Goa is a great time. You'll have a blast there. Try Baga beach. The scenery is beautiful. If you have a few weeks I suggest. Mumbai, and maybe even Kerala. I would not rule out Bangalore either. There are some fun places to go in Bangalore. Depending on your level of excitement, you can visit some very modern places in Bangalore including some very cool nightclubs and Pubs. Last year I went to a Rock and Rolls pub off of MG Street. I couldn't believe they were playing Grateful Dead and Eric Clapton when I walked past.
The South is nice because you can visit some very beautiful temples in the South. Mysore Place is not too far from Bangalore too. I think our plane ticket last year from Goa to Bangalore was about 90 dollars. Not too bad.
Good luck I'm sure you'll have a blast.
Later,
ROB
