clothes for conference
I am going to a conference in Delhi and won't have time to buy clothes there so need to take everything I need with me. I am older female and would like recomendations of clothes that will be ok for visiting sites, time in hotel conference rooms and evening funtions. Have discovered that this is so much harder than visiting as a tourist where the only thing to worry about is not wearing any culturally appropriate clothes. I have also read here that black is not appropriate (I know it's hot but can it been worn in temples?)

Formal/business western wear is perfectly ok for conference. Delhi is a modern cosmopolitan city so you can wear your party dress for functions and casuals for visiting sites.

how formal is the conference - if it is very formal western pant/skirt suits should be ok. For visit to other sites, denims, cotton pants etc with tops should be fine. Black for hindus is not an auspicious colour but it doesnt matter too much in modern cities.
