We will be visiting India shortly from Canada...and will the banks accept the Canadian dollars or should we convert them into US$ before arriving in India???

Banks accept Canadian dollars, as well as Euros, pounds, rubles, reais, yen, pesos, etc.

I think they may exchange Can dollars but on bad rate. You can bring in travellers checks Thomas Cook or whatever.
