bus/train stations cash travellors checks in rural southern india?
i have 6-7 weeks travelling from mumbai, straight to the southern tip.
i want to explore rural india as much as possible and aviod big cities but how many days cash will i need?
will train/bus stations in say towns of 100 000 people or more have a spot at station or have a bank that will cash them<will **** hotels cash them for backpackers?>
i'd rather not walk round with 3 weeks of spending money is all!
almost there guys/girls waiting for tourist visa !

you will never be more than a bus/train/motorbike ride away from a bank (check for bank hollidays).
changing TCs away from the tourist areas can be an interesting experience, allow about an hour, a lot of confusion, and a lot of people looking at you, but still great fun.
whenever you can in india always keep small notes and coins, never use Rs50 or less to buy anything unless you have to (if you want a newspaper buy ciggaretts too) all the small change you have will come in usefull when your outside the tourist areas or when you think your running out of Rs.
before you leave Canada get a couple of US $20 bills and iron them, then fold or roll them up and then have a think about where you could put them, maybe in a book, or behind the blade of a 'swiss army knife', you will think of somewhere.
once you hide them, forget about them, they are purely for emergencies, there also easy to change almost anywhere (even with locals if the banks are closed).
keep Rs2000, loose change and your $20 bills, and that should see you OK for a week.

generally, bus/train stations dont change TC.
Not only do banks change them, but a lot of tourist shops and guesthouses. If u stick to bigger towns, you'll be fine.
as above, if youre going off the beaten track, to small villages/towns then keep a stash of rupees.
