Agree....
I fully agree with UltraViolet. Very practical comments.

Three is a crowd
If I would be you, I would think twice about taking his sister. You are going into different world and do not know what to expect. It will be difficult sometimes, tiring, frustrating and you will have to make many decisions between you and your boyfriend. To have another person with which you cannot part company while travelling will make all this much more difficult and you may ended up with broken friendship/relationship.
Girl is young and under no circumstance you should let her go alone anywhere. In no time you will be annoyed with third person who is with you 24/7. I don't think it would be problem culturally for three of you to have same room, however, it would not be healthy for your relationship. Is she planning to finance all her trip??? Pay for her separate room?? I would really advise you to reconsider. I would propose to take her next time after you actually experience what you are getting into and can relate to situations which you can get into on this trip which will bring so much unexpected and new to you. |

Well I met two 18-year-old girls from Sweden traveling together in India, they were cool and headstrong and fell in love with the country. I wouldn't recommend dropping your bf's sister off somewhere though.

I agree with UltraViolet, I went to India with a very good friend and we always seemed to be pulling in opposite directions.
If you take your boyfriends sister, she has to be an equal, all discussions will have to involve all 3 of you. What if she doesn't like your choice of hotel? What if she wants pizza and you want Biryani? What if you want an early night and she wants a few beers? What if you want temples and markets and she wants the beach? There is always the possibility that she just wont like India, and then you could be stuck with a grumpy teenager. It could work, and you could all have the holiday of a lifetime, but all 3 of you need to talk it over and assume that you will be together for the duration of the holiday. |

Thanks again everyone! I had a brief discussion with my b/f's sister and brought up finances and rooming. She knows she'd have to pay her own way and seemed very eager to have her own room in a hotel. My b/f and I weren't planning on moving around too much while we were in India (Mumbai, Kerala, Banglore maybe and Goa) so she mentioned that if we were in a city for a week or more she would have the chance to meet people and possibly hang out with other travellers etc. My b/f however is very protective of his little sister and basically wants to have her in eyesight at all times...
Sigh, I like the girl and all, she's definitely not wuss, but I do agree with Magan tha maybe she shoul wait till we've been there once and we know what to expect. Any other thoughts are totally welcome! Rachel |
