boring footwear question, sorry

we'll mainly be in Jammu & Kashmir (Ladakh and that) in august but we won't be doing any serious trekking as my wife has a bad back. she can walk up a resonable hill for half and hour, rest then maybe do it again before having to come back. it's not a problem, we always have a ball but we just can't get any serious hiking done.

my question is could we get away with them fancy hiking sandals that everyone's got? will it be too cold in the August day for them? we were in western Sichuan (China) last august. don't think that's as high up as Ladakh but i got away with open toes in the day but had to put on socks in the evening.

i just can't be arsed lumbering my walking boots over if i'm not going to need them.

thanks in advance

x

Hello, I was in Ladakh this time a few years ago and I never wore my trainers, just sandals. I did a lot of walking. You will need socks in the evenings, on the way up, if you go overland (which I really recommend). Hope you have a lovely trip x

You definitely won't need boots. Lightweight sneakers and jandals saw me right. In and around Leh there are quite a few monasteries with mega flights of steps, so whatever you'll feel comfortable in I guess.

Those sandals with socks will be fine - they'll see you through many situations. Your question isn't boring by the way! If you find the sandals are too cold for Ladakh, I'm sure you can buy some lightweight sneakers there - which is probably what most of the locals wear.
