smart wool and icebreaker are both good choices google the pro's and cons and make your decision. Some editors etc seem to prefer smartwool as it is less itchy.

Synthetics are good, but next to the skin I do like the feel of fine wool, merino for preference. When in the hills, and in other situations where showering is not going to be happening, wool also seems to smell better after it's been worn for a few days.

Many years ago, I picked up a batch of 1930s woolen combinations (long sleeved vest and open crotch long johns all in one), and although they look utterly frightful, they have proved incredibly practical, hardwearing, warm and comfortable.

A kinky underwear thread? Reminds me of the education we kids got on the farm reading Sears Roebuck catalogs..

There is some great moisture/perspiration-wicking synthetic undergarments out there these days. Don't know what's available in India or to you online .... but depending on what activity you need it for - staying dry is as important as staying warm!

patagonia or patagucci 's capilene (among others)is another good choice. You probably know about these since I saw your postings in backpackinglight.
Check mark verber's site: http://www.verber.com/mark/outdoors/gear/index.html
I think it's probably the best single source that has information (with links to scientific studies done by US army et al) and covers a wide range of temperatures.
Atleast it's my goto information guide.
Enjoy !
