Best Gifts For Indians ??

What are the best gifts to give Indians. I usually carry 2 bottles of scotch for the guys and perfume for the women.

I recently sent a Indian friends family a Microwave over purchased through indiatimes.com. This however was a disaster as they delived damaged goods with no warranty cards etc.

Any ideas besides the booze and fragrance??

Bill

How about sheets and pillow cases? Or a love blanket.

Strangely I was asked for some Japanese Curry packets by a friend in Mumbai. You probably know the ones I am referring to. The ones that come in small boxes and break off into 3 - 4 cubes.
These are easily available here.

I think sheets etc are easily available in India.

I found lipstick was a great gift for Indian ladies. Indian men like shirts

Yep thats them.

I should remember lipstick. I usually pick up a lot of tshirts as they are pretty cheap in HKG. I actually picked up a load of Rugby 7's cantebury tees and some for Cricket 6's tees this evening. The guy was selling out his stock for a dollar a shirt.

I will also be carring a lot of DVDs as they are popular in India and cost 50 cents a piece here.

I am bringing scotch (JWB) and perfume too--- I am also taking candy---M&M's, Hershey kisses etc. and making some goodie bags. An Indian fellow I work with say's jello and salsa are good to bring also. I also bought some nice hard back books about USA kind of things and also one book of photographs of my state and a bunch of shirts, golf type shirts and some Cover Girl makeup. My gift suitcase is almost full !!!! I had a heck of a time finding shirts "made in the usa" Is anything made here?

T Shirts..

I usually look around the thrift shops and pick up some "Branded" T shirts ( Sports or anything western ) There's usually a heavy presence of "Michael Bolton" or "Ricky Martin" Tour T shirts in the charity shops here in London !

Indians love all that sort of stuff because it will be genuine or "100%"

Light to carry too.

I've just got all my pressies for Sri Lanka out on the table! I'm stressing now that they aren't fair - I keep re-arranging who gets what but it never works out equal!!

I buy cosmetics for ladies and gadgets/baseball caps/electronic stuff for blokes. Second hand electrical stuff is MUCH cheaper here so I also bring stuff in to order, although they pay for it, which in turn means they're free to ask me to get more. Presents are different but I still try to get things I know I can buy cheaply because it means I can take more. I try to cash in on the fact that our second hand sales are full of things we don't put any value on - like tape players or 'nearly' new good quality towels/labelled designer clothes. It means I can take much more stuff that is valued there than if I was buying at normal price. Charity shops are full of unwanted and un opened nail varnish and perfume.

Not sure how much of this is true in India though!

I am carrying specific gifts for friends I'll be seeing (a LeSportsac tote bag, Lemony Snicket books for the teenager, catnip for the pet kitties) and also a few things for folks who are nice to me while travelling: lipsticks, perfume samples, and lots and lots of packets of flower seeds. A few buttons and pins for children.

Apsk121 - Why not red? I know Indian women here in Australia who wear red lipstick?

Gozer - Try looking up some Indian fashion webpages and look at what colour salwar suits and saris are fashionable then pick lipstick colours that go.

Hi!
My Indian friends have a dog. Are doggy treats available in India? I thought of taking him some Schmackos and some other treats.
Though they are Hindus my friends like wine so I am taking a few bottles - are there any limitations for food and beverages at the customs? I am also taking book of my country/city, some folk music. What else could I take?
I have read here lipsticks and perfume - why? are they so expensive in India? I mean perfume is a good gift for a lady but one tries to take something characteristic of one's country.
Also, what do you give your driver with whom you spent 2 weeks? If money (tip), how much?
