Best clothing for February in North India ...

What should we pack / wear for early February ?
Would love to travel as light as possible but can we avoid taking a range of clothing for our various destinations ?
Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Varanasi, Kathmandu ? Any tips ?

Cheers, Rob

Feb is still on the chilly side , but nothing like December or Jan. I foresee you being able to survive with light sweaters and a jacket , also depends on what your tolerance for cold is though.. i dont feel too cold , and normally spend Feb in sleveless sweaters , and on a sunny day in a tshirt.

Hi Rob,
Spent quite a while in the north both in McCg and Sikkim. Did not bother about thermals, took them with me the very first time and ended up giving them to local Kashmiri friend for his wife.
In winter I have been Ok with long sleeved rugger type shirt and added good quality fleece for really cold days and evenings. Sometimes added Tshirt under rugger. Usually no problem, even at Rhogat Pass during light snow storm. All 'locals' were covered up with long coats, wooly hats and gloves. One night in Gantok party on next table (holiday makers from Bengal?) only took one glove off to eat, covered up in huge coats, scarves, hats, boots etc. Sure they feel the cold more than we do as it is not the norm for them. Yesterday woke up to snow here and still around to-day. Weather station outside my back door says -4 degreesC.
Lovely and sunny tho'.
Pack light, you can always supplement with local bought woolies or shawl, much cheaper than here. Marvellous North Face padded/down long jacket for sale in Darjeeling at less than £10. All the local young men were wearing them. Chinese fakes of course, £150 here for the real thing.
Am expecting another visit over there this coming March - looking forward to that.
Will

PS Rob,

I also took a lightweight windbloc and wore this when appropiate, helped a lot to keep the chill out!

Thanks for the tips,
Looking at the charts I see that temperatures for the Golden Triangle range from 10 / 26 Deg for February. I guess the bottom end of the range could be considered chilly but as I live in the North of England 26 Degrees is about as good as we got this summer.

Will, I was planning to do as you suggested and pack as light as possible and pick up an extra wooly or shawl in India.

Fingers crossed for some sunny days.
Thanks again, Rob

We have our first decent Dutch winter in a long time.

Contemplating an upcoming India trip, it struck me today how chilly I find my comfy house and well-dressed up at around 21 C by day, 15 by night. Hardly T-shirt temps. Not to mention -0 - -7 outside.

Pack accordingly.
