best bag

Am leaving for vacation in 6 weeks and am consternating about what kind of travel bag I should use. Am not a backpacker so wonder if a duffel would be the best bet; unless someone can convince me otherwise. Plan to travel by plane, bus and train. I want to bring all kinds of goodies back, nothing big, so want some room, but not a suitcase. I've been around, but nearly always with children, but this trip is for ME! Suggestions.........

A few heavy duty plastic carrier bags.

Get whatever you feel comfortable lugging around with enough space to keep all your goodies.

back pack

Why not a back pack? it's even wieght on your back. I have treated alot of frozen shoulders over the last couple of years due to carrying too much weight on one side. Having said that i saw a tourist in my town yesturday who had a big weekend bag and he kinda had it on his back like a backpack. You can carry a fair bit of weight in them too. Good luck with your choice anyway
happy travels

I do not like backpacks, so I travel with a large sports-type bag made by LeSportsac in the US. You can see these "Weekender" bags here -- look under Travel Bags.

The zips have openings big enough for the hasp of a padlock, so I can lock this beneath my train seat, and four outside pockets, so I can allocate one to the sarong I used for a towel and not have everything else get mildewed.

These bags are ripstop nylon and you can wash them in the machine, or let the dhobi wash them! And the one I carry weighs about 1 pound, empty -- when it gets to 16lbs, I know it's time to send a parcel to the US.

I bought mine on E-Bay -- a discontinued bright red plaid: there's no way someone could walk away with this and remain inconspicuous!
