backpack.. waterproofing

the backpack I'm currently using is not water resistant. I'm thinking I can spray something on it that should make it water resistant. Any ideas?

I'd just get a pack cover. The Packa is what I used for my A.T. thruhike - can't beat it.

since you will be travelling in the dry season, I wouldn't worry about it.

My pack is waterproof so I've never looked into what is available, has anyone tried a spray-on water repellant? If so, what was it, and how well did it work?

If there is a good product available, not a bad 'just in case' precaution I guess, and there'll always be future trips.

A trick from my army days, with a regular top loading pack you can have a garbage liner inside the pack. Completely waterproof, we even used to swim with the pack. And the price is difficult to beat.

Trash bags disintegrate pretty quickly; if you're going to go that route, use a trash compactor bag - they are much sturdier.
