Average amt in Rs per a day
Hi AllOn an average, how much would it cost a person for travel, food, accommodation, entertainment and some shopping for gifts etc per a day in Rs. Bearing in mind we would like to stay in good clean hotels, not luxury but probably 3/4 star hotels. I would like to travel not too distant places by train, Shatabdi express or Rajdhani express sleeper. also if we took a bus it definately would be the luxury bus. Entertainment: Like cultural shows maybe in Agra These are just a few things I would like to find out now. Will post again. Yasmita |

This may sound crazy, but I bet the amount you're thinking about taking is more than you'll need.
Why only Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains, they may be faster and a little more comfortable, but other trains are good as well and not nearly as expensive. Hotel cost (the highest cost of all) come down by almost half if you're traveling with a friend/partner as you pay per room in India not per person. If you budget for £25 a day (everything included) you'll have a great time, or £40 a day for a couple. Overnight train allow you more time in places of interest and save you the cost of a hotel. |

: How much would this be in South Africa Rands or maybe in Rupees. I will be travelling definately with my husband and maybe another couple. So maybe 4 people.yes: Does the no. of people travelling around make the prices cheaper like transportation. Rajdhani /shatabdi express only coz I read that these where the best trains to travel on. I plan sometimes maybe taking train to sleep in like maybe from mumbai to delhi or maybe fly. I heard it is hectic at the airports so I don't want to be held up too much. |

Rs 25,000 a week per couple will be plenty, about 12-14000 for hotels, the rest for everything else. That would allow you Rs1500-2000 per room per night, and should get you a nice, clean comfortable hotel. With 4 people, hiring a car and driver will be a good option. Many things in India are hectic, a big train station being one of the best or worst depending on your opinion, in all of India add extra hours to transport times, get to railway stations or airports with at least an hour to spare, the platforms are wonderful and a hassle free way to people watch, great fun. |

agree with steven, Shatabdi & Rajdhani may be the fastest but there are other infact a lot of others which are good, fast, clean (assuming AC classes) and not as expensive.
Secondly, being open for other trains multiply your chances of getting confirmed berths,.

Rajdhani /shatabdi
Rajdhani /shatabdi maybe difficult to get a berth on unless you book and pay for you tickets well in advance(before you get to India)
