Yes, theyyam! Loved your post, Brishti!! Were they doing this synchronized swimming in the described outfits in your post? 10 women and only 7 legs? Well.. there should have been only 5 legs, because you can only raise one at a time as you're floating on your back! Brings up the question of who were the other two people??
Just re-reading your post - 'the leg stand routine' - okay is that the one where you dive to touch the bottom in the shallow end and both legs waggle above the water?? Mystery there - one and a half sunk down because of the weight of the swimming dress?? this is starting to sound like a Monty Python show!!!

what's hot at the beach this year?
Ahh swiming!...
its freezing here tonight and the fire's raging as the wind buffets the house. i even hanker to swim in India with its tepid brown waters and synchronised ogglers! but the (nameless country) girl in the white bikini and gold high heels was too much! i was staring too... how the @#%*! was she managing to walk on the sand?! |

Well, here's some reassurance for the bikini wearers - have just come back from a swim in one of our good hotel's pools and I counted 14 girls in bikinis in the pool! It seemed to be an o.k. situation for them there, the gardeners nearby barely gave them a glance. A case of 'seen one, seen them all' I think! And with this thread in mind, as I was drinking my chai during a break in the swims, there in front of me were 4 legs standing up out of the water! Some synchronized swimming going on for a short while.
I have to admit I felt completely out of it in my modest Indian bathing suit with legs to the knee - still there's a bonus to it, it holds me in, in all the right places and at my age any bonus like that is a benefit! |

bikinis
Hi All,
I have lived in India for the past 6 years. My experience is that women wearing clothes that are not seen as being modest tend to be looked at as prostitudes and can sometimes be treated as such. I live in a tourist spot and have had countless tales of woe from female tourist complaining about harassment. This does seem to affect single female travelers more. Although tourist areas are more tolerant of Western culture, there are also a higher concentration of unsavoury characters looking for opportunities. If you don't want any hassles, my suggestion would be to avoid bikinis. Simon |

When I was in Goa last there was a girl sunbathing topless. Indian women gave her disgusted glances as they walked past. An Indian man of about 18 walked past and did a double take. He then walked back and forth, pretending to be looking for a friend and sneaking glances at the sunbather. Eventually, he dropped the subtlety and just stood over her staring. He was wearing loose pants that left nothing to be imagined about how excited he was about the situation. The best part is when the girl looked up. She grabbed her shirt and covered her eyes from the glare of the sun. The staring didn't faze her a bit.
Bikinis didn't get this type of response. I wear a one piece. I don't have to worry about it falling off in the tide. |

When we were in Goa there was a HUGE Russain woman topless and a gang of 5 local boys wandered past and started laughing and pointing at her....they stood there for about 5 mins and made a big deal out it as she was sorting her towel out and flobbling all over while they were very much amused....she must have heard them but didnt seem to care.

Has anybody caught any of the Women's Beach Volleyball at the Olympics?
![]() ... . not a bad bikini-sceney! I'm not expecting a team from India or Pakistan to show up at the event... but had a giggle to myself as to what their outfits might be if they did send opposing teams to do battle on that sandy court - I'm assuming it might be slightly more restricting or visually impairing than usual - for all the dipping, diving, spiking, & jumping that they do in that sport.![]()

Ahhhh Misty May-treanor ( hyphenated last name cos she's married) ! This is what I know about it: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...r-bikinis.html Excerpt: ... the rules, which state that bikinis are the mandatory dress for the contest, have been relaxed and the Indian contingent will now play in t-shirts and long shorts. .. "We want to give a good fight in the game and not the dress code," said Kanaka Mahalakshmi, a member of the Indian team ... But the bikini-only rule has not been popular even in the West, with many women arguing that they should be allowed to wear either tights or shorts I don't get that request to wear tights! I mean they are gonna run aren't they ? But what do I know.. This modesty issue is pretty interesting. -skk |

Never played much beach volleyball at that level (or in a bikini for that matter ) but the tights might prevent the sand deposits from building up in publically unserviceable spots.![]() |

"flobbling" - Ali - great word! Some people just don't 'get it' do they? I think this might be a very common sight on the Black Sea. With the vision of this in mind, Singsub, bikinis on some occasions are not a visual bonus!!
