Appropriate clothing for my trip.

Hello!

I'm travelling through India in November and I have a few questions about clothing. There is a lot of advice for women to wear the appropriate things when in India, not show too much flesh etc. However, I am a white male from the UK and I wondered what would be considered inappropriate for me? Im planning on just wearing the t-shirt and shorts combination for the majority of my trip. Would this be ok? I dont want to offend any locals. Any help you can give me would be great.

Thanks!

Tom

Tom im flying out of the uk in november also,im planning on taking simple light weight natural colour L/S shirts and long trousers.Company called Craghoppers do a good range called Kiwi, that are very comfortable and easy kept.
I'll be in india until march so mostly the winter months where it can get a little chilly nov dec time for a lightweight fleace might be a good idea too.

Id personal choose long sleave shirts over tee shirts and longer trousers over shorts, just for better sun protection and biting insects.

You can also of course get clothing made up out there to your size, which is pretty cheap.

Hope this helps

Many male tourists wear shorts, but they do scream "Tourist!!!". And they aren't appropriate in mosques.
I wore shorts my first time in India, but then switched to light cotton trousers the next visit. They also keep the mossies off and protect you from the sun.

Tom, my son (& hubby) do the same as Hal & wear light cotton trousers. Instead of T-shirts (which can be too thick and tightly woven for Indian weather), they wear Khaadi/hand-loomed cotton tunics/kurts. My daughter and I dress the same way, pretty much.

Son and hubby feel very self-conscious in shorts because of what they call their "pale legs" Hey I like pale legs just fine!

But seriously, you will find a thin breathable layer of cotton will protect you from the direct rays of the sun, and help w/ mossies too.
