Am I going to be cold ?

Will be visiting Delhi~Agra~Jaipur in November and it looks like the night time temps are pretty low , how low does it go ?

I don't want to get there and find I need to buy some woolies to wear or I'm too hot and should have stuck to t~shirts .

Temperatures please .

I am doing the same trip but in December so I will be interested to see what people in the know recommend.

I am also going to Ranthambhore - what would be ideal considering that I'll be doing early morning safari's?

You don't need any "woolies" but you should bring layers, including a fleece.

The daytime is lovely & warm in both Nov. & Dec. but it can get quite chilly at night, especially in Dec. and you will want something warm. It doesn't go to freezing at night in any of the places you are going. For an early morning safari, it could be very cold, but as the sun rises, it will then get very warm!

We did an early morning safari in Sariska and with the open car, it was so cold I put on everything I had & even put up my jacket hood. Then it got so warm, it was down to shortsleeves.

One word: LAYERS

cheers camelgirl ~ sounds similar to Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand . Drops to around 20c at night so a shawl is just not enough , plus all the restaurants freeze you with air-con , it's a nightmare .

Thank you Camelgirl. I will heed your advice for layers. Always good to find out these things from those that have done it!

20C is actually very nice if you're coming from our side of the world. Cotton t-shirts, cargo pants, sandals. One light fleece is handy if you're travelling on an overnight train but that's it really. Temperatures are just perfect that time of year....Just think a nice summer's day in UK or Ireland.

Mid to high teens at that time of the year during day time. Night time is much colder, expect anywhere between 5 and 10 degrees.

You certainly need woolens for December. I was in Jaipur in Feb for a wedding, and as the night approached, temperatures plummeted. So December & January would certainly be as cold if not colder.

God I'm confused , between 5 & 10 are my winter temps at night....surely it can't be that bad .

You've really lost me now ~ I didn't realise you had nice summers days in the Uk & Ireland .
I still have no idea what I should be wearing ... I reckon layers wre the best advice and if it really gets down to 10c then one of those layers will be a duvet

It can definitely get down to 10 at night & early morning but I found layers worked. You need something over the fleece to trap the heat, like some kind of light nylon jacket, which has little warmth by itself.

If I leave home in winter wearing a down jacket (not the big heavy kind, the stripped down light kind) I find I do use it in India, but only rarely am I out late enough or up early enough to use something that warm. It makes a great pillow all other times. I bring a pillow case to stuff it onto. There is no such thing as a good pillow in India (or many other places!), so it's not wasted. Plus it collapses to nothing for packing.

Winter in Rajasthan is much like Phoenix, Arizona in the US. Very, very cold at night, lovely & mild in the daytime. Killer heat in the summer! That won't help if you aren't familiar with it

And never forget, you can buy stuff in India if you find you need another layer!

Ha!! They're so rare they stand out

I did the same trip just last December and as Camelgirl just said, not being out too late or up very early I probably missed out on the lower temperatures. I think the usual advice for that trip, that time of year is to pack light and if needs be to buy a shawl or fleece while there. That's how I managed, anyway.

In some places in North Indian plains, temperatures may hover close to zero celsius in peak winters.

I was in southern Rajasthan last December. People in Delhi kept telling me I was going to be cold. But it was definitely warm during the day (~18°C, so I wore just a long-sleeved tee), and at night, all I needed to add was a cotton shawl (10° maybe?). Global warming perhaps?

It was, however, freezing in Delhi by late in the month. So I'd bundle up in a jacket, scarf, and hat... only to have to peel off the layers as the day went on. So yes, bring layers — and something to carry them all in when you start to warm up!

I like to carry silk long underwear (top and bottom)for those cold nights in Delhi. They take up hardly any weight or space, and can be worn under a salwar kameez, or to sleep ...

I can fit two or three good merino wool shawls in the space that a fleece jacket takes, so I don't both with that!

I'd already planned on normal pjs as my mother loves aircon and I hate it ~ freezes me .

As for the 10c and a shawl ~ I'd be like an icicle , so definately my jacket will be coming along .
