A very important question

Do indians have an 'Airwaves' equivalent? Or even better, do they have 'Airwaves' themselves?!

(told u it was important)

If I get your question right:

Try if you can leave your sense of smell behind when travelling in India.
Not only the said air waves but a lot of things will strike your Olafactory (sp?) nerve endings.

Great travels (less a nose)!!

Are these similar to the "Einsteinian Pain Waves" that emanate from cows when they are slaughtered, which somebody had a post about some time ago?

Chewing gum?

(For those members who may be confused, lulabell is not another of my usernames, though the similarities are surreal. )

air waves is indeed chewing gum. It is loaded with menthol so when you bite into it, you get a massive wave of menthol up into your nose....it is helpful somewhat as a nasal decongestant.

Other things that are useful nasal decongestants: (in case you cant get your airwaves)

1) Hot curry: Capsaicain (chemical which makes chillies hot) is one of the most powerful nasal decongestants, and people with chronic rhinitis actually spray PURE chilli extract up their noses....OUCH!!!!!!

2) Adrenalin: Cant get it from the doctors, but is produced in quite large amounts during orgasm...use your imagination.

PS.....#2 wont be useful as an excuse for cracking one off in a public toilet mr george micheal...the police will STILL arrest you ;-)

Yeah, Airwaves are a v strong kind of menthol chewing gum that i munch on incessantly. Do I need 2 bring 6 months supply (thatz about 180 packs) or can someone point me in the direction of an indian substitute (preferable). I figure what with all the curry munching one might be rather in need of some kind of 'freshening' in the breath department n'est-ce pas?

So, try paan[1]; it's addictive too. and also a good digestive.

Cheers Digital Drifter. I shall b sure 2 give it a go. Although I think I might take it steady, what with it being a 'known carcinogen'! (according 2 that link)

Anyway, surely I'll b able 2 get some form of chewing gum in India? Even if it is not quite up 2 Airwaves standard. Or not?

Yes - you can get Airwaves.

Try your local Himalaya shop for a natural alternative!

Buy some gum by asking around. Buy some raw Menthol crystals. Available at every paanwallah in the Country. Pop gum in mouth. Pop a coupla' Menthol crystals as accompaniment.

FLY!!!

High Guaranteed!! Just try it out. If you put four or more crystals, your mouth will lose taste and the tongue will burn for 2/3 days!

BTW, all paanwallahs say to their male customers that too much menthol is bad for the libido. They theorize that because it is "cold"; it will make you "cold". Could be, God knows. I don't.

I was addicted to menthol in chai. [tea]. Never put raw crystals but the leaves of Mentha viridis... the plant from which its extracted. Then the vendor closed shop and disappeared leaving me high and dry. End of addiction.

It seems a significant chunk of Menthol extract is exported from India. Someone told me 40 % of World consumption. This again I can't verify.

Airwaves! Wow, I thought it was some new form of throwing your thought waves in the air!!

Wonderful idea! i'll give it a try. Then no telephone bills?! Excellent!
