a gift from the u.s. to my team in bangalore

i am going to bangalore for work in may. i want to bring a small gift for my team, but am at a loss.

when i went to mumbai last year, i brought each person on my team a beanie baby (little stuffed animals). i got one for each of them and tried to matched their personality. i wanted to get them something that was american, since every time i see someone on my team in person they come bearing beautiful unique indian gifts. the beanie babies were great and became fun office/computer trinkets for them. i don't want to repeat because two of the guys on my bangalore team were on my mumbai team - that would be lame.

i don't want to bring something touristy or cheesy, but something that has some american meaning. being american, it's tough to see things the way others would.

anyone have any ideas? can you think of something they would like to receive that would be considerate and not too personal. also, not too expensive because i need to get six.

thanks for any help.
julie

Pens are useful gifts, come in many different price ranges, and are not too personal.

How about mugs/caps/ etc. from whichever city you are in? Also, I'm sure they would appreciate sweatshirts/T-shirts but it may be more trouble to get their sizes. If you are from New York, anything I Love NY makes a GREAT gift! Isn't there anything typically local of where you live? I'm in Philadelphia and I always take all kinds of pretzels (real food, fake toys, etc.), liberty bells, snow cones, you know..the usual stuff. Hey, I know people like snow cones. You don't get those in India.

Think T- shirts should be good for B'lore. You can pick them according to the individuals personality aswell. The baseball teams and soccer team T' s should get you the personality trait matches also. The Bears, the bulls etc is what I mean...

one rupee AND one pen

but seriously - pens would be the perfect gift. id go with a gold cross pen/s -they are cheap.

mont blanc are a fortune and im not certain they would even appreciate the distinction.

also -pens are light and small and who wont like a nice pen? tshirts could be a great gift OR a dog so id leave it be.

you might also bring perfume samples for some ladies and give these to them on the side.

maybe some sort of puzzle as well.

Hmm.....how true..poor Bangaloreans...don't know why 20-30 shops in B'Lore are selling Mont Blanc when noone appreciate and owns one in B'lore.
Anyway the whole Mont Blan thingy was a joke..I wouldn't just 'gift' 20+ Mont Blancs, untill I've got $2-3 M deal/saving from them.

Mont Blanc is bullshit anyway

...or so say my pen collector friends. They are way overrated, leak prematurely, and are not the pens of choice of true enthusiasts.

It was meant as a joke. But could not agree more. Never really bothered with expensive pens or watches even when I have had the chance and money to buy them. As long as a pen writes well I do not care if it is a cheapo one from staples. same with watches as long as it can keep the time and is waterproof I am happy.

got a bunch of candy today to bring over. hershey's kisses, lifesavers, etc. was at the mall taking my daughter to a bday party and got some great ideas. stationary store had some nice journals and some great picture frames...got inspired but couldn't shop because of a tiny tot meltdown on behalf of my pooped out little girl.

a pen and a journal might be nice. too bad i can't bring some beer over...now THAT would be a gift.

Spacepen

Not sure if this reply is too late, but just wanted to let you know if you are indeed taking pens may I suggest Spacepen from Spacepen.com? Especially the BULLET (http://www.spacepen.com/usa/catalog/1004/index.htm) was a huge hit when I took bunch of them to our Indian developers. Comes in a neat box with history of the pen (used by astronauts, you can write on a greasy surface, write pointing upward etc etc). It is a typical nerd pen and was a huge hit.

You missed the point, people.
She wanted something "American".
Ballpoint pens (and some types of fountain pens) were invented in Croatia: LINK
