A few important questions??
Hi folks
So glad I found this place, great site. I am returning to India for the second time In november and staying until last week in march 2010. I was in india last year for 5 weeks (delhi and dharmsala ) Had a wonderful time, but took for too much stuff. Im going with a small group of friends this time and we are planning on traveling light, flying into mumbai traveling to goa, kerla etc some buddhist sites too and up north to dharmsala and perhaps on to nepal for couple of months all being well. Ive set a budget of 1000rps a day which I found very do able last time I was there as Im not into much luxuries and prefare to live a simple life. Anyways We'd prefare not to check any luggage and just carry a day sack with all my gear weighing well under 10kg. Im not bringing a sleeping bag this time just a silk liner perhaps? I'd like to carry some medical gear with me too such as basic first aid and some pain killers etc can I carry these in my hand luggage??What about small siscors too? Clothing wise I know the climate is abit cooler that time of year so I only plan to take 3 sets of clothing, light shirts, toursers, fleace and light body warmer and base layers etc one pair of well broken in trek boots??? Any advice you can offer on travel that time of year and packing would be very welcomed. Thanks so much. |

You can easily buy the few things you can't take as carryon once you arrive though. Quote:
If I'm flying carryon only, which I often do in Europe and did on my last trip to India, I take a very lightweight thin jacket with HUGE pockets and stuff them full of small but heavy items. ![]() Also do carefully check the regulations of your airline - some airlines such as British Airways only restrict the size of carryon, and have no carryon weight limit, even in economy.

What about a carryon crow?
Foolishness aside, welcome to the site, dicoveringtheforest ![]() When we flew to UK recently, only at the airport did my wife start thinking about the contents of her handbag; I expected them to take away stuff like nail clippers. I don't think they even looked at her bag. When we checked it properly for returning from Heathrow, we even found a three-inch blade! |

I know my time in india would be abit easier if I could bring my small leatherman ( 1 inch and half blade ) as I enjoyed camping in the woods near dharmsala last time but with flying out of heathrow i think thats pretty unlikely and a risk I could take, the worse they could do is just take it off me, right? haha ....or they could wrestle me to the ground, might not be such a good idea, think I'll pick something up while im there. Cheers |
