Should I pack a bunch of shirts or simply buy them in india?
I where L-XL shirts and 38w32l pants... Should I stock up back in the states and take a pack full of clothes or can I mostly buy these clothes in India? Im looking for light cotton pants and light shortsleeved button up shirts... As a bigger guy, it can be difficult to find my size in Asia ive noticed. I will be in Northern India from September 27th - October 15th! Anyone have experience in this area?!? Thanks in advance!! ![]() Last edited by giovannibernini : Sep 3rd, 2009 at 04:36. Doubt it's a problem - lots of big Indian guys, esp. some of the Sikh chaps.

Yes, clothes that size are definitely available, but they do sell more of the smaller sizes, so large sizes may not be in every shop and sizes at some market stalls might be limited.
As you're only in India for two weeks, and having clothes washed is so cheap it's virtually free, you're not going to need many clothes anyway. You might not want to spend much of your restricted time shopping for clothes.

You can get superb clothes made anywhere in India for very reasonable prices.Of course if you are on a headless chicken tour you may not have the time..Headless chicken tour is running around from one place to the next and wanting to see everything .
And probably missing the most worthwhile things. |

Hi Giovanni,
I'm 6ft and during my previous four trips to India, I was 20 stone (I have lost four stone now and am a very pleasing 16 stone-Yay!!) I needed a size 42 wast 34 leg and size 50 shirts, I had no problem buying stuff off the peg. What I did find funny however, was how many Indian guys wanted to pat my tummy and tell me "how very fatty you are sir" with a big smile on their face! I have mildly sensitive skin, anyone know what kinds of chemicals or detergents or lack thereof that are used by the laundry wallahs? Thanks everyone for the response! And I know two weeks is a pitiful amount of time to spend in India, but you know how the U.S. operates and my little trip is more time than most of my associates would even dream of having abroad. But nonethless, If my overworked lifestyle permitted, I would love to stay longer. Thanks again everyone. |

For peace of mind one should not enquire too closely. Once while taking a walk on the fringes of Shimla I came upon a team of washermen laundering hotel sheets etc in a stream. A short distance UPSTREAM was a very heavily used village latrine ground on the same bank. |

Are you Caucasian, as I am? What did the Indians think of a big white guy durfadurfin around in their country? Im curious as to the reaction of the people in proximity to me there. Im kind of clumsy too, hopefully I dont accidentally take out a small woman with my elbow when turning corners or something...

you will be an object of some interest. I am caucasian (a little polynesian also) - during my last trip I had a huge beard - I looked a little Sikh - (99% Sikh - our driver thought) although Sikhs knew I wasn't, some Hindus thought I was Pakistani and some Muslims thought I was an American professional wrestler.

you'll have a freakin blast. And don't take their interest in you as a negative thing, it's easy to let all the staring and stuff get to you. There's nothing in it, just curiosity.
