2 suitcases and a backpack: recipe for disaster?

I guess I am writing this because I am freaking out a little. I usually "travel light" with one medium sized suitcase; however, for my India trip in the near future I feel as if I am CRAZY. Here is the deal...

I am traveling to Delhi and Jaipur for a medical elective. I have packed my normal medium sized suitcase for my clothing and personal items, as well as a regular backpack for my carry on. However, I am also bringing medical supplies to be donated in India and they take more than half of an additional large size suitcase. The remaining half of the large suitcase is filled with gifts for my friends parents who live in Delhi (as a favor for my friend). So that means I will have 1 backpack, 1 medium suitcase, and 1 large suitcase!!!!

I feel as if I am going to stick out as some sort of western diva or princess with this amount of luggage. I just don't want to be targeted in the Delhi airport.

I am getting picked up from the airport by a local coordinator, but does anyone have any advice for me in the airport with this much luggage?!?!

Thanks in advance,

don't worry about it would be my advice!
If you've gotta take it all then that's how it is. Make sure you get met at the airport...there'll always be someone to help you carry it for a few rupees and if you're worried that you'll stand out you should see how much luggage indian families travel with!!

yes, as kidsan says, don't worry about it! as long as you're getting picked up you'll be fine. and even if you weren't getting picked up, you'd still be fine. Indian families travel with trunks!

That's nothing! You should see when some NRI families travel back to India. Alot of their luggage is right out of the 60's/70's and it is stacked and PHD(piled high & deep!) with gifts et al . There are tons of luggage carts waiting just after you clear customs and head for the conveyor belt. You will have no problem and won't raise an eyebrow with that small load.

Thanks so much for your help! I feel much better now.

What about traveling on a bus from Delhi to Jaipur with this much luggage- is it still "normal"?

Regards,

Those deluxe buses have lots of room underneath and there are all kinds of coolies around to take it off your hands. Anything goes with luggage in India ..... once you unload your gifts and parcels - you'll be foot loose and fancy free .... until you start buying souvenirs and gifts to go home with.

Peak isn't kidding! Wait till you see what the other passengers (the NRI's) have piled up on their luggage carts in the check-in line at the airport! You won't believe it! Not just "normal" luggage, but huge appliance boxes, the most GIGANTIC suitcases you've ever seen and not just one ... Heck, if you have a lot of luggage, you'll fit right in!

When I went to India several years ago, I travelled with a huge amount of Japanese foodstuffs that my Indian friends asked me to bring for them. I didn't mind at all...my suitcases were soon emptied, and believe me, I came back home with it full of all sorts of wonderful things.
