Question Where to stay in Bodhgaya?

Hi I am new to this. I am looking for basically clean and cheap accomodations for 4 members of my family who will be joining a Buddhist pilgrim Nov-Dec 08 (approx 19 days). There are basically a big bunch of Malaysians & Singaporeans who will be on this trip (some 100+) but the pilgrims are staying in different locations. Has anyone heard or have photos of Mahayana Hotel? Is this a new hotel? NOT Mahamaya Hotel/Guest House. We want to be as close to the Mahabodhi temple. For 4 members on 19 days, we are on a budget. TQ in advance.

Hi,

Have you looked at the Bodh Gaya hotels page yet?

Yes, I have but the rates will go pass my budget since it is for 19 days stay.

If there are any locals around, I am interested in this hotel called Mahayana Hotel which can not be located with any pictures or map except on Inasra.com.

With previous funny experiences in Lumbini, so long the place is clean with a proper bathroom. That's fine. TQ in advance.

Why don't you stay in a monastery instead of in a hotel. Less expensive and nicer atmosphere.

Check here
Bodhgaya

The place to stay in Lumbini would be the Korean Monastery (certainly not at a hotel), for free including food, even for a hundred+ people if registered beforehand.

Regarding Mahayana Hotel

I've been in Bodhgaya 4 times till now, last time last January.I guess you are going for the next Kagyu Monlam???I didn't stay in Mahayana Hotel but i've seen it, it's nice one, not new but those particular days i guess it will be expensive.I remind you that there are regular power cuts in Bodhgaya so have a torch with you & there's also too much dust around. You could buy a mask outside Mahabodhi Temple{although the sizes were quite tight for my head even though i haven't got a big one }.What is your budget for the room???

We are staying in Gaya or Bodhgaya for one night on the way back to Bangkok. If budget isn't an issue what would you guys recommend?

We stayed at the Sechen Nyingma monastery's guesthouse, 400rupees for a twin, with shared bath. The dogs are barking at night, if you arrive late, but they are just doing their jobs, and are friendly anyway. The mosquito solution includes a screen, an electric device, and a very nice gekko in the room. :-)

Don't they have them in Greece? A gecko is a cute little lizard, the ones that can walk around the walls and ceiling, a handy insect-catcher.

Lemme guess: You call them in Greek?

Most welcome, cheers. ps In Thailand I was told that that giant monkey you think you hear bawling at night is actually a (larger) gecko. Don't know if they were just having us on to this day, but according to them they can make quite a noise, in other words. (Never noticed this first-hand btw, so I still have my doubts. It's possible, or for some species. If it's true, it's bloody loud & rings all over the jungle, that's for sure! Come to think of it, some frogs have a similar habit & make a terrible noise that you wouldn't immediately define as being froggish. Yes, I suppose it's possible.)
