Trip to Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh

hey.. i am planning to travel to tawang sometime in august end. this is basically a open ended trip, and i will be traveling with a tent, a slr camera and a video camera (i know that it sounds like a lot of stuff, but i will like to document my journey).. i intend to stay in the tawang monastery for sometime. now does anyone have regarding any requirement of permit or anything else to stay inside the monastery. also, i wanted to know if it is possible to cross into china and Bhutan from there, and what are the papers required if any for an indian citizen for the above purpose.

peace ,
Sunny.

Welcome to IndiaMike Sunny!

I hope the links at the bottom of this page can help gather more info on Tawang, and the permit requirements. Being a disputed zone, crossing the border into China is not possible from Tawang (as far as I know). No idea if Bhutan has an entry point from Tawang, there is one from Rangia in Assam though. Hope this helps.

I can only echo #1 here : there are no open borders between India & China since ´62 , and at present Tawang is the last place that would open since China lays claims to it.

I add my agreement to the above comments. The only entry points into Arunachal Pradesh are apparently via Assam. I remember reading a book where the author was following the Brahmaputra from Tibet and wanted to cross into the Siang Province of AP nearby to Pemako. He could not. He had to return and come up the river from Pasighat and continue his journey.
