Had been to Tawang in May 2008

Hey Paval. We went to Tawang in May 2008. Had a lifetime experience.
Got a SUMO from the SUMO STAND at Tezpur for a lump sum of Rs 5500 for a 4 day trip (includes driver charges).
But fuel expenses were extra. Total diesel consumed was 140 litres. I paid for the same as and when required. But do keep your vehicle filled, as there is no guarantee of getting the same from Indian Oil/ reliance Depots. The roadside shacks (eateries) stock diesel. You can get ur vehicle filled-up here. At the end of the trip about 10-15 litres were left. But one cannot help it and the same had to be forsaken. The fuel consumption was around 6-7 kms per litre of diesel. (Steep ascents)
We hired the SUMO from:-
Mr Dipak Kataki (Sumo owner)(Registered with ASTC- Assam State Transport Corporation)-He can also help you get the Inner Line Permits.
Phone number- +91-9864182449, +91-9435080318, +91-9435381326

I dont remember the names of the hotels as of now. Will have to take out the hotel receipts and then inform you. Tezpur - we stayed in a new hotel about 1 km away from the ASTC busstand. Bomdila- Hotel LA (Budget hotel..ok for a night's stay)..On the way back we stayed in a good hotel at Bomdila. Will send you details. Tawang- The Tourist Lodge is best. There is water scarcity in all hotels in Tawang. Opt for a ground floor room in the Tourist Lodge.
Rest in next.

Dear Paval,
In Bomdila, while returning we stayed at "The Shipyang Pong". It had big rooms and good facilities. We didn't make any prior booking for hotels at any place. You see, Tawang is off the usual tourist circuits. So we didn't find many tourists there. However, the same cannot be said for the 'Puja vacation' when lots of 'bhadralok' from Bengal are out with their backpacks!! Yes, we did find snow at Sela Pass and also in PT-Tso Lake, Tawang. I think October would be just fine..just after the rains. But the roads would be in poor shape. You can read my travelogue on - www.vishal1967.blogspot.com

You can book hotels in the spot only or you can do it from Guwahati to be safe. The peak tourist time is generally March-April as Snow falls generally take place this time when tawang looks heavenly and rains are mostly absent. You can also visit Tawang in December. It will be cold but the views of the snowfall & the mountains generally will be exquisite. I have written a travelogue on this beautiful place of Tawang with lots of pictures. You can check it here: http://kalyansuman.blogspot.com/2007...-paradise.html. For any further info. or advice you can contact me.
