Sleeping on the beaches on Lakshadweep?

Hi!

Have anyone had any experience with sleeping on the beaches or out in the wild in general on the Lakshadweep Islands? I'm on tight budget so i'm taking the boat over and staying on the islands for a week or two. But 1500 rupies a night is to much for me

And how is to meet the locals? A combination between muslim and fisherman seems like a friendly combination.

And question nr 3: For how long can you stay on the islands?

Hope that you can help me and maybe i see out there, riding on coconut.

Evert

You can't go back-packing to Lakshadweep.
You have to either go through SPORTS ( LD tourism) or a private resort in Agati or Bangaram, which are quite expensive.

So you ought to pay them per day charges.
So whether you would like to stay in the resort or on the beach, you still gotta pay them.

As such LD islands are damn safe, with no crime rate.

Infact, we have already slept on the beach & in small open shack in the night in LD, that was in Dec 2006

As far as I know, foreigners can only stay at one of the expensive resorts on a few islands. I think it's different for Indians.

BTW, Indonesia is the perfect place if you want to live like Robinson Crusoe. We had our own island of paradise and were brought supplies about every 3 days and paid only $5 US a day for the island and food. This was 15 years ago. But the mosquitos were a problem. Check out Pulau Banyak.

Camping is not an option on Lak, and there's no price differential between foreigners and Indians. There is one resort on Agatti and one on Bangaram. They are very basic, but you pay the price for just being there. There is no way to do Lak on a budget, like there may be for the Andamans.

Check online for the weather conditions in Aug. It might not be the best time. I was there in Dec and the weather was good. Aug may be rainy. There is only one route to get there - you have to fly from Cochin to Agatti. So you would have to go from Delhi to Cochin, and then Cochin to Agatti.

Sports is just an entity which promotes tourism. It has no authority to prevent anyone to tent in any of the islands in lakshadweep, given the person holds a valid permit stating his intended period of stay.

Checkout the lakshadweep home page, and the entry rules states nothing about camping prohibition.

I got contacts to hire a personal yatch to travel to lakshadweep. Although that is going to take some time to implement
