I am planning to visit North-East in May (would that be the right time, have heard oct-apr as best time to visit) with my wife and another couple and was confused whether to head to Shillong or somewhere else.
I am planning to land in Guwahati on 9th noon and leave Guwahati on 17th noon. So had a full 1 week with me. Should i head straight to Shillong and Sohra or there are better places approachable with the time line. I was in sikkim last year and thoroughly enjoyed the North Sikkim trip (especially the Gurudongmar lake). |

I am from Shillong and it's an awesome place to be in, but Tawang is an equally enchanting place. It's more like your personal choice. If given a choice, I might just choose Tawang over Shillong though. I have stayed in Tawang for 3 years, and it was as wonderful an experience as any!

would 1 week be enough for tawang
Hi S3ven,
thx for the response. Would 1 week be enough for travelling to and fro from guwahati to Tawang and spending some time there. Also would the journey be very taxing, and would tawang be different to North Sikkim. Also in Sohra, is the trek to double root bridges manageable, given i am from mumbai, and have not had a trek for almost a year (though walks of 15-20km are easily manageable here). thx.. |

you can reach Tawang from Guwahati directly by helicopter .... by road it will take at least 2 days to reach Tawang from Guwahati.

I was chatting to my brother at Guwahati and he too indicated that tawang is the place to go as it is amongst the most beautiful places around. However, he was there in winters only and had no clue how good it would be in May. Is it worthwhile going there in May?

Understood perfectly.... Am planning to delay the trip to November/December as there is no point in going halfway across india and not enjoy the best the place has to offer. Would plan to visit Tawang in Nov..
