North Eastern States Of India
I have just come down after two months of backpacking in the North-Eastern States of India .I went To Bhutan and then to the yumthang valley in sikkim and then few days in Guwahati where I met a biker from hydreabad and hitched a ride to kaziranga ,later to shillong and cheerapunjee and the interiors of meghalaya from shillong I hit Haflong and visitedthe Jantia hills and Jatinga village where migratory birds supposedly commit suicide ( which is not true ..since atrap is set by the villagers and they are attracted to the light set by the villagers) From haflong I went to Mizoram ..quite an exotic place ..with hills and hills of Bamboo Forests and plenty of greenery and fResh air..stilll very much virgin and uncorroupted by tourist.. from mizoram i hit Arunachal Pradesh and did a 7day trek in the mountains staying with Yak herders and cattle grazers in the dirang valley further ahead of Bomdilla.. what can I say about this side of theHimalayas.......very very warm people and hospitable .there are 120 tribes in Arunachal Pradesh each have their own dialect and the common language which binds them is hindi .. later I hit Tawang crossing the sela pass ..Tawang has the biggest monastery in India ..Tawang is what Leh was 20 years ago .very laid back and relaxed ...later I came down to Guwahati and hit Mirik close to darjeeling and chilled out for a couple of days and crossed the border at pasupati Nagar and entered Nepal ..I quite liked Mirik which is less crowded and more relaxed than Darjeeling
In the course of my travels besides the beauty of the places i visited ..I met some very very friendly and amazingly wonderful people ..very difficult to meet such in the plains and cities of India .. well Mizoram , Arunachal Pradesh ..one requires a permit ( even for Indians ..for foreginers I believe travel is restricted and one has to travel in groups of four or thro a travel agent). Haflong and the jantia hills is beautiful and the Jatinga village where I went to is one of the most beautiful villages I have come across in India ...neat ..clean and tidy .. Bhutan is quite clean as compared to india and the people very friendly who go out of the way to help you during my travels in the North East interacting with locals I realised ,there is a general feel of resentement among the locals .becos in many places there is large scale migration from other states and migration is a problem all over the world ....... |

Hi landoormama you can be a great help to me. I am travelling to Mizoram in april. I have taken care of the permit issue. It will be very helpful to me if you share your experiences with me. Things you did in aizwal and surrounding areas, places to see and stay, what about food is it cheap is accommodation reasonable priced. I plan to hire a bike once I reach aizwal to travel in and around aizwal rather then hiring a cab or using the local public transport, is it a good idea to hire a bike. What about health hazards? Just write about all your experiences of Mizoram it will be very helpful to me.
