Nagaland
Hi everybody!
I am planning to go to North East India in October-November (Sikkim, Nagaland and Arunachal pradesh). I understand you need to travel in a group of 4 or more, but I also read that if I am entering with my husband we can get a visa too and travel just the two of us. Is that true? Also, we want to visit remote places, villages in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh as I want to write about tribal culture and maybe spend some days in a village. I would truly appreciate information about beautiful authentic locations. Thanks a lot!!!! Many smiles Keren |

Hello Keren, and welcome to India Mike! The rules have changed regarding Arunachal Pradesh - you only need to be TWO people to be issued a permit, which is for a maximum of THIRTY days (in the past it was four people / or a married couple for a max of ten days). I am not sure about Nagaland. For Sikkim there is no such problem, even single travellers may go there with a permit which is a mere formality.
You might like to read a bit around this forum as well as the forum called "Other Areas" (which covers Nagaland as well as Arunachal Pradesh) and then ask away. I visited Arunachal Pradesh in March/April for three and a half weeks and have written my travellogue. You have chosen an ideal time of the year - autumn - when it should have clear mountain views. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences.

Thanks
Hi!!!
thanks a lot for the lovely reply. I'm glad you said that its a good time to go, as we are planning it for a while now(I'm a true India addict). I'll read your previous posts about the area to see if you've mentioned any isolated locations/or villages. Please let me know if you think of one village in particular Many thanks Keren |

Hey keren,
I will also be traveling to Northern India during the months of October/November. Itinerary isn't set yet, but am looking to visit similar areas. As of right now I'm traveling alone..would be cool to meet up at some point! Have you progressed in the making of your itinerary yet? Cheers, Katelyn |

Always travel in groups while in the north east region, Local people are friendly though
The best time to visit NAGALAND is in december first week, so you could join HORNBILL FESTIVAL, an event by govt. of nagaland

Nagaland is great during May/June, when fresh pine apples shine in golden sun rays across the slopes of Himalayas.... A sight to watch! Such a sweet pine apple, you can have it for meal.

I´m in the same situation like you. I´m traveling alone and I would like to visit Arunachal Pradesh and Assam in November and the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland in beginning of December. So if you are still looking for a companion to get the permit, then drop me a line. I will arrive in Delhi on friday, October 23rd. Stefan |

I found it extremely difficult to get hotel rooms during the Hornbill Festival. I advise you book hotel rooms in advance in Kohima.

I believe that Hotel Japfu at Kohima - Govt tourism hotel - is the best place to stay in. I did not get rooms there because I had no advance bookings. I am no cultural buff, so I am unable to comment on the Horbill Festival. Since mine was a driving tour, I spent a day in Kohima (War Memorial, etc) and proceeded to Imphal. There are few other hotels in Kohima and what else I saw was not very inspiring. Advise that you book in advance.
