Lakshadweep

Hi everyone!

Am thinking of travelling to Lakshadweep from Goa with Indian Airlines, but I'm remembering reading somewhere it's very difficult for foreigners to visit this areas as they want to keep it away from tourism. Any truth in this?

Do I need to apply for visa or anything similiar in order to visit Lakshadweep?

Any info appreciated! Thank you!

Actually I did find some info on this:
Quote:
Permits to visit Lakshadweep can be obtained from the Lakshadweep tourist office in Cochin.
There are thritysix islands and only five are open to foreign tourists:
Quote:
The five islands which are open to tourists have simple accommodation in the shape of beach cottages.
Source.

From information on the net, it appears that foreign tourists are still restricted to certain islands. I don't know if it is still required to be part of an organized tour, as in the past, or whether independent travel is now possible. Check some of the links that Google brings up:

Did you see my answer above?
