Thanx Maysun for choosing Kolkata than Delhi & your love for Rabindra Setu (popularly known as Howrah Bridge ).But to see this setu you have to come out of the station and walk for a while to reach the bridge. There is no train line on the bridge &/so you wont cross the bridge by train like other bridges.Anyways, best of luck & have a happy/safe journey.

2. Get your ILP permit from the District Commissioner's office in Guwahati. (Deputy Resident Commissioner, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh Chandmari, Guwahati Ph- 0361- 412859. Or you can get it from Liasion Officer, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh , Parvatinagar, Tezpur, Assam Ph- 03712-20241). I think I paid Rs. 50-100 for the permit - but that was a few years back and the rates may have changed - different rates too for foreigners probably. Foreigners are also required to be in a group of 4 minimum. Take along your passport/visa. The whole procedure shouldn't take longer than twenty minutes/half an hour, unless the DC is in the mood for a long conversation. :-) Hope you've phoned and made your hotel reservations in advance. There's a good tourist rush at this time of the year. Well, I hope that helps. I only wish I was going along as well. It was one of the most marvelous, most beautiful trips I ever made, and the Monastery in Tawang is perhaps one of the best there is. I made plenty of terrific drawings and paintings and the people (locals and soldiers) were just wonderful. Maysun P.S. They check the ILP at the check-post at Bhalukphong and at the hotel when you show up. If you decide you want to stay a bit longer, you can visit the DC at Tawang and ask if he can give an extension. |

Tawang May 2008
Hey Sandipan, we too are planning to go to Tawang in May 2008. We have booked flight from Kolkata to Guwahati. You can get the ILP made at Arunachal Bhawan, Salt Lake. From Guwahati there is a helicopter service to Tawang (Rs 3000). But I don't know how to book that. Looks like we will have to take a SUMO from Guwahati itself.

Dear Sandipan
We are just the 02 of us (me and my better half). We plan to go to the Tezpur Sumo stand and hire a SUMO for the trip. I have contacted some tour operators of guwahati but they are all asking for around 30,000 bucks for a 5/6 day trip.

Back From Tawang
Hey guys..just been back from Tawang. Had a lifetime experience.
Got a SUMO from the SUMO STAND at Tezpur for a lump sum of Rs 5500 for a 4 day trip (includes driver charges). But fuel expenses were extra. Total diesel consumed was 140 litres. I paid for the same as and when required. But do keep your vehicle filled, as there is no guarantee of getting the same from Indian Oil/ reliance Deopts. The roadside shacks (eateries) stock diesel. You can get ur vehicle filled-up here. At the end of the trip about 10-15 litres were left. But one cannot help it and the same had to be forsaken. The fuel consumption was around 6-7 kms per litre of diesel. (Steep ascents) We hired the SUMO from:- Mr Dipak Kataki (Sumo owner)(Registered with ASTC- Assam State Transport Corporation) Phone number- +91-9864182449, +91-9435080318, +91-9435381326 |

Hotels in Arunachal
Still in the process of getting the photographs ready. Will post them soon.
Hotels are most basic. Dont expect resorts on the circuit. Tariff is from Rs 500 to Rs 1500. For Rs 1000 one can get a decent room. |
