Question Bihar/Patna/Sonepur

Plan to go to the Sonepur Mela at the end of this month. Anyone been to this fair or going this year? I am having trouble finding anyone who has had any experience of it. It seems that accomodation is set up by Bihar tourism and the fair is said to be four times the size of Pushkar but I can't find anyone who is going/has been.

Also, the feedback I have had on Patna and Bihar in general has been mostly bad. Anyone got any info or even anything nice to say about the area?

I did notice that there is a train going from Varanasi straight to Sonepur Junction but, it goes through Ayodhya where there has been some aggro. Any no a reason why we shouldn't pass through there on the train? It will be an overnighter.

Thanks for reading.

There are lots of trains between Varanasi/Lucknow and Sonepur. Ayodhya is not situated between Varanasi and Sonepur. So you will not pass thru Ayodhya. Check TT , there is a thread with some info on Sonepur.

Patna

Kind of liked Patna on my way to Nepal, it's not touristic and not much to see but I was never bothered by touts like in other Indian cities, I could mind my own business without expecting any "hello friend" round the corner. I never felt any danger neither (doesn't mean you shouldn't be careful like anywhere ese in India).

Hi

Am still in two minds about going to Sonepur and am not too near it either. Am currently writing from Rajasthan. Like you am also a little concerned as to whether it has been effected by latest news, and how to get accommodation.

Someone did tell me that the Bihar Tourist lot provide tents for tourists.

Would be curious to know if you get any other info.

Anna

The Mela started 2 days ago, but I think I'd be a little too concerned about the local news to go there at the moment, well I'd probably still go, but I'm just stupid.
