Well done. I know lots of people who are even afraid to travel to india. 3rd world country with beggars on the street, Cholera, malaria, rabies, starvation, Dengue fever, SARS break out, Plague.
God knows how many die of bird flu, do you think India keeps an account. About Britain and America; moss side in Manchester, brick lane in London- mugging new york, hundred of unregistered Peodofiles. Have you been there, they are the Bihar of Europe and America. Chennai and Punjab female infanticide is rampant (I will take that as a crime). Forced child labours in kanchipuram. Hit and run of Delhi. Riots of Gujarat (6000 butchered). Dance Bars of Mumbai- dens of crime and mafia, bomb blasts. You can literally die on the streets of Delhi and not be taken to a hospital. Even if you do it will be a police case. Unless you have insurance foreigners are doomed. None of the above mentioned crimes exist in Bihar. |

Dear WW,
In Darjeeling last summer I met two kids from England who, along with eight other tourists from varying nations, were robbed of ALL their stuff on the train from Benaras to Calcutta. They had their backpacks chained to the berths, but even this did not stop the theives. The local police are often in collaboration, or at least, avert their eyes from this kind of crime. It is rather conspicuous when a group of poor locals are leaving a staion in ia procession carrying new western gear in the middle of the night. Anyway, the kids showed up in Darjeeling, both dressed way too lightly for the cold weather and carrying only a garbage bag with a few things in it. I felt very badly for them, and gave them some clothes I didn't need, since I was at the end of my journey. Moral of this story: exercise caution and make sure one of you is always awake on long train trips. Good Luck, R.

Jeeesssss, bihar123.... you have a contorted, twisted, unreal and plain weird view of the world!
Given your take on the places I know, I'm afraid I wouldn't listen to anything you have to say about anywhere. Even your own street. OK... just enjoy your home, OK? That's just what I do most of the time, whatever anyone else thinks about it. And you forgot to mention leprosy.

TWISTED VIEW, just because you come from the chinnai (what ever its called-anti hindi what ever, dark glasses wearing CM-weirdo) doesnt mean those crimes do not take place. tamil nadu has the worst case of killing female babies in india. have you heard of that in bihar.
face it. whole of india is a dump, once criticise bihar i will spill the beans. i am frist bihari then indian. |

I find this thread is becoming hotter. Let us confine for the time being to the specific issue. Is Bihar safe enough for travellers? Let us share the recent experience of some of the indiamikers on this issue. I have travelled to Bihar only for two days that too for some religious ceremony at Gaya in 2000. Hence it is too short a period to give my opinion about travelling experience in Bihar.

Nick is a British citizen who has adopted Hinduism as a religion and India as his land.. Now this is the statement that makes you the villain, would appreciate if you continue to live in your own box and enjoy your Biharism...this one statment shows that you are a wierdo, a person as useless one can become and root of all the problems that Bihar faces and to some "extent" India... |

Every state is rated for its performance have you ever looked at how Bihar is performing? If you are so patriotic about Bihar you should find ways to improve the situation and it starts with accepting the facts and the current situation.

I find that Bihar does not figure in sub-forums for states under 'destination'. This indicates that there is relatively few posts/querries about travelling to Bihar as compared with that for other big states. The reason is obvious.
