Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal.

This is a possible itinerary for summer Assam/Meghalaya/Arunachal Pradesh:

day 1: Delhi-Guwahati by air, Guwahati-Shillong (3 hours)
day 2: Shillong sightseeing (Umiam lake, shillong peak, waterfalls, stuff like that)
day 3: Shillong-Cherrapunjee and back (1.5 hours)
day 4: Shillong-Guwahati (3 hours)(kamakhya, umananda, brahmaputra cruise, other stuff)
day 5: guwahati-itanagar(8 hours) so if we leave guwahati at like 8:00 we will get there at 4. is that good? see whats in itanagar..
day 6: itanagar-ziro (5 hrs),see things.
day 7: dree festival in Ziro is this day. sleep early for long drive tomorrow
day 8: ziro-guwahati via tezpur (11 hours...sun rises in arunachal at 4 a.m. so it wont seem like we are driving at night, we will reach guwahati by 3 then... a little delay wont be bad, and it will be a scenic drive though wont it?).
day 9: Guwahati-Delhi by air.

How is that ? 9 days is already a bit much, but whatever. The only thing I dont really like is the 11 hour ride on day 8, but what will we do at Tezpur, or if we go by Itanagar, whats the point? We have already seen Itanagar on day 5.
A bit tight. but tell something that is totally bizarre which wouldnt work out if anyone sees something...
Thanks!
Rahul

This Iten will work.

two things to caution you about.

1. try and spend more time in shillong/cherapunjee, and keep the overall nine days you have with a car flexible.

2. find out if you need any permits to travel to itanagar or anywhere else in arunachal.

Write a detailed report on the dree festival too, when you go.

Do you think its better to stay overnight at Cherrapunjee or do day trip from Shillong? I read about limited accomodation at Cherrapunjee so that is why I made it into a day trip on the itinerary.

I did a day trip and regretted it because I came away with the feeling that I haven't seen enouhg cherapunjee. (but that's a feeling you get often in India).

Try to stay overnight if you can find accomodation in cherapunjee.

There is a resort near Cherrapunjee where you can stay. It is not usually crowded but since there are few options, better to book in advance. It is definitely worthwhile staying in Cherrpunjee for at least a day, or more if you can. It is a very very beautiful place.

There isn't much of sightseeing to do in Tezpur. But if you can put some more time, you can stay for a day at Potasali angling camp near Nameri National Park, which is a great place. It is around an hour's drive from Tezpur.
