Arunachal Updates

looking for the latest reports from people who have been to or are going to Arunachal Pradesh (i've got lots of websites already) regarding permits and travel in this region.

is it still necessary to have 4 people in a tour group? or can you invent ghost members based on passport records held by tour companies, or find other ways around it?

how long does it take to get the permits? is it necessary to do so in delhi? if it takes 4 weeks, do you need to apply and then pick up 4 weeks later in delhi?

is it required to spend a certain amount of money per day per person?

all this and more... if anyone has answers and experience for/with this mysterious and alluring province, i'd appreciate it

Hi Cowgill. We weren't in AP, but it doesn't seem hard to get to now. We met a couple in Assam who'd just been there and they didn't seem to have any problems getting around the 4 people issue. It really depends who you talk to, but a good tour company should be able to arrange things. One we'd recommend is Purvi Discovery http://www.purviweb.com/ Very professional people who know this area better than most. I think you might have more difficulty if you want to go without a guide, etc.

I'm not aware of any restrictions on how much you should spend, but obviously you need to bring enough with you in cash to cover your expenses. There are ATMs in towns like Dibrugarh, but none in AP I believe.

TQ

Hi,

You can invent "ghost members" for your group without any problems.
I visited Arunachal then Nagaland with Abor Country Travels & Expeditions. http://www.aborcountry.com/
They're very friendly, helpful and professional young people.

Hi,
Im also looking to visit Nagaland and Arunachal. Is there no way to get a visa instantly or will you always have to wait a month? I was hoping to go there in 2 weeks time.

I wasnt planning on going there but with Nepal being a bit dodgy at the moment I thought these places, and Sikkum, would be a good alternative.

Also, are the tour operators expensive, they all seem to glance over the issue of cost on their web sites.

Thanks
